...is no doubt today. I have been well known to be a solid Pearl supporter in many of the arguments to the point where I have been (incorrectly) labeled a "Pearl Fluffer". So, while I am certainly have not been one of those over-exuberant fans who possess a wholly unrealistic near sainthood-like reverence for Pearl, I have defintely been a solid and virulent backer of the coach from the time he was mentioned as a coaching target (I knew of him from my days at UWM). Therefore, today sucks in a number of ways and I feel an anger and disappointment as both a Pearl and Vol fan to the point where I even question Pearl as coach.
That said, I have no interest in cutting off my nose to spite my face. Unless, we are hit with USC-like sanctions, Pearl has made UT a solid program where top recruits are routinely looking into coming to Knoxville (Another reason for disappointment in that I'm not sure the violations were really "necessary" in the first place). I certainly don't want the most successful five years of UT history followed by a Todd Raleigh-like hire.
On another note, I've never included assistants in my many arguments in support of Pearl with good reason. They just don't do a whole lot for me. Now might be a good time to cut the fat, although I doubt it will happen.
