Wow, what a great month for UT basketball recruiting. Some great news and excitement in July. I figured I'd just post some random thoughts that hopefully make some sense.
1) I actually think Hubbs officially committed to the staff, the staff got excited, somebody said something, and Hubbs wanted to wait to tell other coaches, including Coach K, who is in Europe for the Olympics. I'm 95% confident Hubbs is a Vol and that he committed to the staff. Just my personal feelings.
2) The Vols need a center. But here's the good news. If Stokes leaves, we get another scholarship opened up and that means we can get a center. If Stokes stays, then we have two centers with two years experience on the roster (him and Yemi). Good situation there.
3) I read the Nick King interview that was on VQ the past week, and I do think the Vols have a good chance. I still think he's a Memphis Tiger, but I don't think it's as done as everyone thinks.
4) Interesting situation for the staff is Crawford and Hubbs both want to be Vols. Do they let Landry go, hope Moore or Richardson can be the backup PG, and get a big man or JW3...or do you keep Landry? I still really like Landry but he didn't have a good summer. Will be fun to watch.
5) I don't think I have to say it, but this is a monster year for Coach Martin. With all the recruiting buzz, if he can't pull through (let's say he only get Nichols out of the main 4: Williams III, King, and Hubbs) it will be disappointing. You can still get a good class, but there would be disappointment. Get 3/4 (and pull off a miracle and get 4/4) then it shows UT will be a force in the SEC.
6) Memphis, UT is coming for you. Just saying.
7) So my class for UT for 2013? I think the Vols get Landry, Hubbs, Nichols, Williams III, and Desmond Ringer because Stokes goes to the league. That's easily a top ten class and maybe top five, which would be the highest ranked class for UT maybe ever.
