That's what I'm saying...single plays can change a season drastically. Worely doesn't get injured, UT stays with him and we might never see Dobbs emerge. But does that Dobbs isn't good if he doesn't play? No. Perceptions and opinions changes can be hugely effected by events. UT wins a couple of those games, and yeah, that's a massive boost over 7 wins. UK wins a couple of those games, and even more of a boost.
Let's play some more. Change one play, UT loses to USC. UT struggled, with Dobbs, to beat Vandy. Vandy was one or two plays away from really scaring UT late. We could play that game all day. My point wasn't to change a season by playing make believe, but just to point out getting to a bowl game doesn't make one team automatically better than another. Especially when the head-to-head says otherwise! USCjr was up and down last year, it's not like they had one bad game against UK and other than that they were the usual USCjr we see.
No one, including me, is saying USCjr is worse than UK. But to act like UK has no chance at beating anyone other than Vandy, that's just subjectivity at its finest. "Oh UK? They'll never be good at football because they never have been!" What does the history of UK have anything to with predicting next season? I agree history is a good indicator of a programs level, but you're just using it as an excuse to throw some garbage towards UK. Vandy was historically bad, and a coach comes in and beats UT. Now they suck again, but that small window of time really bothered UT, losing like that. Winning can be done at "bad schools", Vandy proved it. Remember UK had a good run under Brooks as well. Not 10, but he was solid 7+. I've already said realistically, for right now, the best we can reach is probably becoming a 8-9 team every year, that plays a small role in the East. Maybe every 3 or 4 years having a good run, but not much more than 8-9 is possible imo. The SEC is just to good.
UK was competitive last year in all but three games. That's reality. We return almost our whole offense. Another reality. We beat USC last year. Reality. I don't see why we can't do it again. And I don't see why bashing UK's history helps your argument. UT has amazing tradition, and all it took was a coaching change to run it in the ground.
