my take (for what it's worth)

I agree except that I don't think we "discovered" we could run wide on UT during the game. That has been this offense's identity for a long time now. In fact, I'd say its been an emphasis this year for UF to run more between the tackles. Murphy at QB isn't really going to change a whole lot of what we do.

Did we have any positive that you saw 99?

after thinking about this, i would say that i saw more people on tennessee's defense pursue the football and arrive to try to make the tackle.

there were people busting it to try to get to the football.

i want to clarify what i meant with murphy because some people misunderstood a little bit.

my point was not that florida found its superstar qb. the point was a guy that people believed had no business being on the field actually played fairly well when given an opportunity to play. the only way that you would ever know if he could play was to get an opportunity to play. that's how it relates to peterman. i don't know what jones thought about peterman before the game, but the only way to find out is to play him. tennessee's decision was by choice and florida's decision was forced, but the principle is the same. i promise you that no one involved in florida football would have thought it were possible for murphy to be the best player in the huddle...if maybe only for a day.

1. This first part may rub salt in the wound, but it explains why coach jones gave Peterman a shot. Word about florida was if you wanted to see the season go down the toilet in a hurry, a jeff driskel injury would do it. While I am still going to guess that gator fans will find out why that was believed to be true, what murphy did yesterday shocked the coaching staff and any media member who covers the gators. Sometimes you just don’t know until you put a guy in the game. Peterman was given a shot and it was a disaster. But, I do understand giving him a shot.
2. However, there came a point where it was obvious it was not a good idea. That point came a heck of a lot sooner than when he was pulled. And they also asked a guy who was struggling to do things in down and distance situations that he had no business doing. That is on the coaches.
3. After the endless parade of ineptitude subsided, Florida discovered that if you go wide on the Tennessee defense, it will yield results. For how limited florida was offensively due to injuries on the line and elsewhere, the one or two things they were capable of were able to succeed.
4. The offensive line that is supposed to be a strength isn’t for a couple of reasons. (a) They have never been a very good run blocking line. The success running the football, mostly last season, came from defenses having a fear of the passing game, not the line’s ability to run block. (b) the line is not best suited or used to playing in this particular system.
5. Because of #4, they are not going to be successful offensively this season. It just isn’t going to happen. The team was supposed to be carried by the line, not the qb, rb, and wr.
6. I will not get into specifics and will only say this generally. A lot of the problems that existed pre-butch are still there. The way to fix these problems is on the recruiting trail. I believe jones will get it done there and I stand by my statement before the season that 2014 will be a better season than 2013.

Ya know, agent 99, YOU have a lot more to worry about from your OWN TEAM than attempt to analyze ours. You're a pretty smart dude, and I don't believe that you're trying to rub it in--but the facts are--your team is not that good.

You're staring down losses at LSU, GEORGIA, South Carolina, and maybe Fla. State. 8-4 tops, more likely 7-5. And, you're not going through the transition process that we are.

However, you are right. CBJ should have pulled Peterman earlier--but he answered that question in his post-game presser. We also have true freshman playing CB and S in our secondary who don't really know how turn a play back inside to the pursuit. We committed 5 turnovers and still only lost in da swamp by 14 points. Just who is really in trouble here?

Yesterday's game exposed the Gators more than it did us. You ought to be thankful we don't run an offense with a fullback and have a serious commitment to a power running game--or we would still have beaten you yesterday.

Any team with a serious commitment to running the ball is gonna pound dat azz for you guys! LSU, Georgia, USCe are gonna wear you out. Play action off of the commitment to run between the tackles is gonna give you fits. Your DL and LBs will not hold up under a relentless physical attack by the aforementioned teams. Play action off of a successful running attack will blow you out of the water. 8-4 is the best you will finish--and Gatornation will not accept that.

I still think we will finish 7-5, 8-5 with a bowl win. Future is bright for us--but Fla is headed back to also-ran status and this shift in our favor will happen within the next 3 years--BOOK IT! GO VOLS! :salute:

I wish people would not try talking down to teams that have beaten us nearly a decade running now.

I actually watched the game and have played the game--have you? Fla IS IN trouble this year....

And, BTW, 99 comes on here by choice and always has something to say about us--without ever offering an "objective critique" about his own team. I just thought that I would provide one for him--and I didn't insult him, just offered what I really believe about his team.

not talking crap--they beat us--we gave them 5 turnovers and still only lost by 14...IF we had a TRUE commitment to run the ball and a half-way decent QB, we could have won that game....

And finally, I NEVER thought that I'd have to justify a critique of the Gators as a VOL FAN on a VOL SITE!

Press the ignore button if you don't like it--Frankly, I couldn't give a da.. :salute:

99, Lawrence, lawgator -- they're all good members of this board who, though they do enjoy talking trash now and again, generally offer substantive and interesting posts.

Florida may or may not be in trouble this year, but it doesn't change the fact that they beat us for the 9th straight time. We still have a long climb to make to get back to their level, even if they ARE in trouble.

I'm just wondering what Jones saw in practice that said to him "This kid is ready" I can understand the gamble. IMO, you do what you have to do to spark the team.

It's a Tennessee board so I keep the discussion about Tennessee.

What Florida is or is not has nothing to do with tennesseee

Your desperate hope that Florida not have a good season I think is just a little transferrance going on about how you feel about your own program.

I'm shocked that Florida tried to run it down our throats after watching the last 2 years.

Running to the outside = easy money.

S***, anything to the outside has a chance for 6.

I like that where he says the gators are in trouble this year and we got a bunch of QBs that cant throw the ball 10 yards down field.:eek:lol:
