My take on the game last night

I just wish we could start by hiring an offensive coordinator...there is absolutely no reason why we couldn't get Bowling Green's, Louisville's or even Texas Tech's guy...no reason at all.

NC, what's the latest on the injured players? I hate to see ANYBODY get hurt.

Caldwell was in for surgery while Meyer had his press conference after the game. The broken femur is very serious and could be life and also career threatening due to the amount of blood through the femur. Hopefully he can redshirt... Mac will have to have an MRI and haven't heard anything of yet...appears they may be out for the yr though.

I agree, there are plenty of talented OC's who would LOVE to come to Tennessee to play with the talent we have.

Y'all keep talking about all this "talent" that we are supposed to have this year. REAL talent isn't affected by coaching, environment or rankings. REAL talent catches passes. REAL talent doesn't throw uncalled punt fakes. REAL talent makes crucial field goals. I am NOT down on my team. I just don't think we're as good or as TALENTED as everyone keeps saying. You cannot hide REAL, God-given, born-with-it, talent. Or the lack of it.

I kind of agree with that. However, with the wrong teacher or the wrong guidance, talent can be a waste. I have experienced this first hand and find it to be true in any aspect of talent....

Potential VS Development. 40 yd dash times don't lie. On paper we have the potential to be talented. It is the development that we are lacking. Chavis continues to develop our defensive potential....need I continue?

I was wondering if he had actually broken his femur. That is just awful. The pain had to be incredible. Hope he can recover.

Not only that, but UT has a top 5 recruiting class year in and year out...TT, BG and Louisville do not, yet their offenses amass copious amounts of points. They don't have to have the best talent b/c the coaches can put together packages that win games. UT is sad b/c they rely so heavily on being able to hold their opponent to a low score that they often find themselves in catch up mode at the end b/c their offense is so lathargic. The key is to ditch the stale offense and mentality that "Tennessee Football" is time tested and here to stay and get with the times! These offenses like some of the other teams run have been around long enough that they can no longer be considered gimmicky or fads. They are explosive and they put points on the board. There is nothing wrong with an I formation, but everyone likes a little strawberry and chocolate with their vanilla.

I have been saying for years that Randy Sanders has done absolutely nothing for UT football. My point about talent was that if we have it, I WANT TO SEE IT!!!

I wanted to check out to see just how good Florida's defense is and here its is:

pass defense they are number 2 in the country only trailing NC state.  Rush defense they are 18 in the country (we are 10), They are number 4 in points allowed.

Now last timed I checked those were some good stats.  We went up aginst a hell of a defense last night and moved the ball pretty good.
Now here is my take,  Our offense played good enough to win that game.  if wilhoit makes that kick we would have went up 10-7.  If Britton could have made that kick instead of the fake no way does Florida get a field goal on that drive, and If heffney could catch the ball on the punt, no way the get points on that drive.  So really without special teams the score was 10-10.  Bet you didn't look at it like that.  But last night was a defensive game.  After the first touchdown by Florida they didn't see the other side of the field unless it was a turnover by us, .  Our offense should have been able to take it into overtime with the way they played yesterday,  But special teams ruined that one for us.
Oh yeah for all of yall calling for RS head and saying Trooper should replace him,  Trooper IS the ST coach.  Take a couple shots at him now if you ain't stuck up his rear end to far.

Wrong answer!!!!!! Steve Caldwell is special teams coach....Trooper is the running backs coach..... :fool:

Did the basis of the topic get lost here??? The conversion on 3rd and long by opposing teams have killed us in big games the last 7 years at least.....I'm not an expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

stopping teams on third and long? good

Teams converting on third and long? very bad

A lot of that last night though was the defense getting tired. The special teams miscues along with the sputtering offense left the defense on the field way too long.

Trooper = Associate Head Coach, RB caoch and coach over player development

The offense :yuck: for the second week in a row. The Vols have to score 21 or more to win an not give up more than 17, otherwise the season is :shakehead: :bad: . Are the Vols overrated? :dunno: Is there a QB problem?

No, we just turned the ball over twice within our own 50 and another time at a crucial point in the game.

Our QB situation will be fine. We need to cut the turnovers and be more creative on offense

I was actually somewhat impressed with UM. The man definitely has a set of brass balls.

As for our problems, it seems to me to be a motivational thing. If they can't get up for a game against Fla. then we're in for a long season. It's starting to remind me of 02 more and more.

If u think UM coached a good game then u don't know football. They scored ONE td and the rest were gifts by us. His offense will not fly in the SEC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yuck:

Now that answers the kicking game fiascos, off season arrests, lack of discipline and two running backs= 12 men on the field, in a critical situation last night. Chest bumps though, best in the land. He is an idiot, get him out of here! :gun:

Nope, just the ignorance of protecting the coaches that cause my responses. The coaches must be held accountable for their performances and I will never quit beating this drum with the talent we have. :whistling:
