My Take on the McRae/Stokes Situation.

I would consider it a huge mistake for either to declare for the draft. Jarnell has showed nothing to make him a power forward prospect. He's undersized with a bad shot. As for McRae, he's more ready than Stokes, but he needs significant work on his dribbling. I'm confident that he will have a much improved body for wherever he ends up next season. As for Cuonzo, this could be the third consecutive year that he will face an unexpected blow. However, as much as I rave about his abilities, I don't think the fans will give him another pass. He should have recruited depth by this juncture of his tenure.

Stokes nowhere near ready, other than physically, for the NBA. If stokes turns pro, I think that speaks volumes about CCM and would be the beginning go the end of his coaching at UT.

I'm not worried about Jordan leaving. He's too smart for that. Jarnell on the other hand...

This is how I feel...if I had to put percentages...

90/10 McRae returning
60/40 Stokes returning

I also keep reminding myself this is Tennessee and that somehow things always get screwed up, and something is gonna keep us from seeing "the dream team" next year.

If they want to leave before completing their mission, let them go... freedon of choice is paramount in the world we want to create.

.

You're criticizing the kid that was the consensus #1 pick for leaving early?

Not at all, just emphasizing that most of these kids still aren't ready physically or mentally for the game and the grind at the NBA level with very few exceptions. It becomes a business decision that lottery picks can't pass up. Davis hasn't exactly been the game changer that was expected of him with being the overall 1st round pick.

I hope they stay. I think with the talent we have coming in, and the impact incoming freshman can have, especially in basketball, it could be a very special season.

...you don't watch the NBA very much, do you?

That not only does Martin not get talent that is good enough to get looked at by the NBA, but he can't keep the ones that are good enough to stay because he's terrible. What else? Ha ha.

I mean Pearl got Hopson, Duke Crews, and Tyler Smith, how'd those guys turn out? That's not a stable argument on CCM. You wanna argue Martin can't develop guys offensively I could see it. You wanna argue CCM can't win the big games as a coach and I can see it. Tou even wanna argue that CCM cant recruit a desent PG and I could see it. You cant argue that CCM can't recruit the big time guys when he's pulled in Stokes and Hubbs. Pearl left us in a horrid mess and the only knock I have on CCM is he hasn't recruited a PG. Doesn't mean he lacks the ability too, but just he hasn't put the effort in needed IMO. We are talking about a guy who pulled Hubbs in over Duke etc. What it comes down to is these guys do really stupid things. Stokes leaving would be an awful decision. Hopson leaving was a horrible decision. Duke Crews and Tyler Smith getting in trouble was very dumb. These guys just do stupid thing sometimes.

I mean Davis hasn't been the dominate force I thought he'd be. He's only averaging last time I checked 7 RPG. He'll get a lot better though with time, but I think Vucevic is the best post out of the past draft. Lillard is the best player all around though.

Vucevic wasn't in the past draft. Davis and MKG have shown themselves to be pretty ready unless you for some reason expected a nightly 20-10 from a rookie.

If you took Pearl's recruits off last years team what would you have?

To this I would say that if Tom Izzo had replaced Pearl that Pearl's recruits would have still been the best players we had last year.

So that what would we have without Pearls guys stuff dont hold water.

Dont act like Pearl gave CCM a gold mine when he inherited CJ and Lofton. You think as Mr. GA basketball Golden has panned out as a great PG? You think Hopson was worthy of a top 10 player out of high school? To much emphases is put on stature of these guys out of high school. Woolridge was a four star player, do you want me to really go there? Point is, Golden is good but he's no Lofton or CJ like Pearl inherited. McRae is a stud, who never played under Pearl. CCM has developed both McRae, Maymon, and Golden into what they are today. He's done a solid job on Golden who isn't a great, natural PG like everyone thought out of high school. Pearl wasn't the best player developer also, see Duke Crews, Hopson, Tatum, Woolridge, Hall, and R. Smith.

As poor as Pearl was at recruiting, player development, etc. he seemed to be able to make the big dance every single time. How did that happen?

I just said the dude made good points. Especially regarding too much emphasis being made on recruiting back then. That made me think of Ramar being a 5* back then.

Hell ya BP was a bad man. So find somebody else to get into a piss'en contest with.

I was being sarcastic. I like Martin and support everything he does. I may wonder his logic, but I trust what he does.

Because Pearl is a heck of a coach. No one said he wasn't, but you can't judge Martin vs Pearl. Pearl is the better coach, but the first two years Pearl also road the Lofton train. This year will tell the story of what CCM is made of. No excuses now no matter what happens because he's had two years to recruit his guys.

Heard Yemi may transfer to another school. There was a rumor that Edwards may also. Regardless with Thompson coming in and the possible signing of the visiting post the team will certainly be different next season. The one thing that could help Stokes and McRae by staying is all the coverage they would get if the team plays well and is ranked.

Must be super wonderful to be a HC waiting to see if your two top players return. If they don't then

1) Run away
2) Run away faster
3) Call Bill Battle for "moving van in my front yard" advice. :p

One thing that might help Stokes by returning is maybe he learns to shoot FTs and score inside.
