My Thoughts on the Florida Game, After Sleeping on it

I may be one of the few who agree with you about Napier. I kind of hope they get rid of him because I feel if they extend him 1-2 more years, he will turn Florida around. UF finally put money into facilities to catch up with others. That team has not quit on him and in my opinion, that is admirable,
I am certainly not a gator fan, but I think Napier also will turn Fla around. I think we have much more talent than they do at this time and they gave us all we could handle with a less talented team at Knoxville. If this game had been at the swamp we would have lost.

Glad to see a report from someone who was actually there instead of all of the second guessing from the lazy boy crowd.

One thing I noticed…the “lighting of the T” was lame last night. Usually, it’s really dark in the stadium and the T is lit brightly so it stands out. Last night, the rest of the stadium didn’t seem that dark and the T didn’t seem that bright.

Anybody else notice that?

they did not show it on the broadcast
I don't know if it's available anywhere else or not
I don't know why they didn't even look at it
They did show it. He clearly stepped out. It was not worth reviewing. They just did not talk about it. They were rambling about other things and not that his foot was out and was what propelled him on the last lunge. I thought they missed the call originally, but it was actually not that close.

I'm gonna throw in one observation. We all complain (justifiably) about holding penalties being called on us and not on our opponents. However, the penalties can't be called if we're not doing it. Rightly or wrongly, the refs are likely looking for it because we've got a rep of obviously holding. I know it's hard in the heat of play sometimes, but we need to be more disciplined. Same with false starts.
The officials also need to call it consistently on both sides. They’re not.

Can’t worry about anyone’s feelings when someone gives them twenty something $million to go work elsewhere.
This! Unbelievable that just getting a power 5 head coaching job can bring generational wealth to a coach even if they never work another day in their life...

That includes us as well. I’ve been vocal about Ole Miss and they still are the royalty for flopping but we did it twice (poorly) last night. Once by Norman-Lott when FL was near the goal line. (And he came off the field grinning like the Cheshire Cat. And once late in the game when one of the DB’s fell down for no reason like he’d been shot. He hopped up about 15 seconds after the refs called the injury timeout. Probably the most obvious flop I’ve ever seen. It has gotten to the point of being ridiculous and it needs to be addressed.
100%. Ridiculous.

He's a collegiate Sophomore he has eligibility as if he was a Freshman but he played in 5 games last year and started the Bowl game. He's been with the team 22 months, played 11 games and started 7. He will get better, right now he is in 2nd guess mode, the Oklahoma strip sacks and 2nd half seemed to make him lose some confidence IMO.
The fumbled read handoff vs UF really screwed up the whole 1st half we were rolling and I figured they'd fake an injury to slow us but we fumbled and it changed the whole dynamics in the first half.
Agreed. He needs to learn from his mistakes for sure. Time will only tell.

I think Squirrel faked an injury on that sideline catch late in regulation so they’d have time to review it. They did and they changed the call to complete. Smart move by Squirrel if so.

And of course, we have the designated fake injured guy on PATs when we score quick to give the defense a chance to rest.

He didn't have to fake an injury, his AC joint/shoulder was obviously hurting him all game. Especially after he dive and missed the long pass.

Let me add this about Florida....they're not a bad team. They suffered a blowout loss at home to a top 5 Miami team week 1 and it sort of created a narrative that they're terrible. Week 1 games can be misleading, though. Their 2 prior losses were to Miami and aTm, who, it turns out, is a good team.

I don't know how severe the Mertz injury is (or the RB, Johnson), so those could hamper them. But if injuries don't derail their season, they absolutely have a chance again LSU, Kentucky, and Ole Miss, all of which are in the swamp. They should beat Florida State. They might actually make a bowl game. And I'll say this...those kids are still playing hard for Napier. That doesn't look like a team that thinks its coach is a dead man walking. That speaks well of Napier.

I also think the narrative that Florida was Miss State level bad was overblown. They certainly aren't the 3-9 type of team that most people were predicting after week 1. UF still has top 15-20 level talent, even if they aren't coached very well.

If we can just stop the turnovers (and stop committing dumb penalties), our offense will get back on track. Nico has been pretty careless with the ball the last 3 games. But it isn't like our offense has been completely shutdown either. If Nico doesn't fumble the ball on that first drive, there is a good chance we score and the flow of that game goes much different.

I think Heupel (if he doesn't do this already) needs to be out there right behind Nico at practice and go through the reads with him at game speed and help him with that. Nico seems to hold the ball too long.

Napier doesn’t know what he doesn’t know in terms of game management, play calling, situational decision-making, etc. I’d list examples just from the TN game but it would take a week. He is a decent man with a good family. I don’t want them humiliated or embarrassed, that’s a crappy part of all this. But he needs to gently go away.

Even Muschamp and McElwain win that game yesterday, and Mullen would have won it by multiple scores. Florida just can’t accept a coach who can’t handle the basics of gameday coaching.
That being said, I certainly wouldn't be offended if Napier cobbled together 7 wins and stuck around another year.

I did say the complaints are justified. But we still need to be more disciplined. Penalties slow our pace, one of our big advantages.

Did you actually watch some of the things the last three teams did on OL ? Sure we committed some penalties but when a DE is bulldozed or drug down from behind wtf would you call that ? Any idiot with a remote can find at least 5 times in each game for the last 3 games that should have resulted in a flag against the opp.
I did say we complain justifiably. Doesn't change the fact that we need to be more disciplined. Penalties not only costs us yardage, they slow down the offensive quickness which has been a great advantage for us.

UGA, Bama, and we get beat, we drop 4 or more places in the rankings. Ohio State gets beat, they drop two spots. A win is a win and we drop spots. Just another reason to hate the biased media.

Two things I saw I thought were seen but not called…
A face mask on Sampson running thru the line…
And the one I screamed about .. the defender hit Nico in the helmet when he went around the left side and was going out of bounds…

I agree with what we control. Just wish they would call things both ways.
