N.Korea

The Pentagon activated its new U.S. ground-based interceptor missile defense system, Bill Gertz reports in Tuesday's WASHINGTON TIMES, just as officials announced that any long-range missile launch by North Korea would be considered a "provocative act."

Poor weather conditions above where the missile site was located by U.S. intelligence satellites indicates that an immediate launch is unlikely, said officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

However, intelligence officials said preparations have advanced to the point where a launch could take place within several days to a month.

Two Navy Aegis warships are patrolling near North Korea as part of the global missile defense and would be among the first sensors that would trigger the use of interceptors, the officials said yesterday.

Gertz reports: The U.S. missile defense system includes 11 long-range interceptor missiles, including nine deployed at Fort Greeley, Alaska, and two at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. The system was switched from test to operational mode within the past two weeks, the officials said.

One - Brilliant announcing where our defenses are located.
Two - For whatever reason, I don't think we'll use them if N.K. does launch.

I would imagine that the locations of our defenses are known already.

I agree that we probably won't use the missile defense system - it would probably escalate things too rapidly. On the otherhand, it would be a good test.

...which would be great as long as the interceptor missiles work. However, if we fire the interceptor missiles and they don't work, then North Korea would feel much more empowered. I say let North Korea know that we have them, but don't use them unless we absolutely have to do so.

Kim Jong-il is just trying to make sure everybody remembers he's still over there. What a nutcase.

He's like the international diplomatic relations version of Al Gore.

We should send the newly reunited D-X to hold diplomatic negotiations with Kim Jong-Il. That should fix the problem.

Now that I think about it . . . I think Kim Jong-il was one of the midgets in the ring with Michaels and HHH last night.

IMO - That was a lame promo. The mic work wasn't even particularly good.
It wasn't The Game's best work. However, midgets mooning a bunch of male cheerleaders is always funny.

Are you talking about Kim Jong-il or HHH?

They both sucked.
It will take wrestling's King of Kings a while to acclimate himself to playing face.

The only time you hear from him is when the food stores are depleted. He uses threats to get some cash and food. He'd make a good panhandler downtown...

I'd be a little cautious about using Aegis or some other ABM system now. Since it isn't war, if it failed, we get a HUGE black eye among other things.

Conan O'Brien just said that North Korea is working on a missle that can reach the U.S. and once it lands, it will turn into a nail salon. :birgits_giggle:
