NASCAR investigates Stewart, Montoya incidents UPDATE: #20-Tony Stewart is not expected to be fined for skipping the post-race press conference last weekend at Phoenix, but #42-Juan Pablo Montoya may be for an obscene gesture made on camera prior to a Busch Series practice. NASCAR officials are reviewing whether to penalize the former Formula One star who made the gesture at a cameraman following him from Nextel Cup qualifying to the Busch garage for practice. According to officials at Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, Montoya thought the cameraman was a person who has been shadowing him as part of a documentary for more than a month and that the gesture was all in fun. There is nothing in the NASCAR by-laws differentiating between using an obscene gesture or word in fun or anger. NASCAR officials plan to speak with Stewart and remind him of his post-race responsibilities. Stewart left the Phoenix track without fulfilling his media obligations because he was upset with a second-place finish.(ESPN.com)(4-25-2007)
UPDATE: NASCAR announced today that Juan Pablo Montoya, driver of the #42 Dodge in the Busch Series, has been fined $10,000 and placed on probation until Dec. 31 because of an inappropriate gesture made during a practice session this past Thursday at Phoenix International Raceway. Montoya was in violation of Section 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing) of the NASCAR Busch Series rule book.(NASCAR PR)(4-25-2007)

I have been trying to give Montoya the benefit of the doubt, but he is starting to get on my nerves. At first he acted like the new kid in town and treated everyone around him with respect. Now he has acts like he is better than everyone else and people should bow down and kiss his feet. He needs an attitude adjustment and I hope that someone gives him one.

JPM is going to be another Stewart as far as dirty racing and attitude.
I have to politely disagree with you....Stewart isn't dirty.....He, however, is aggressive.....There is a fine line...and I don't think he's on the dirty side of it....I don't know how some of the Earnhardt fans will feel about this but he's the closest thing to him we have right now, comparing the two driving styles that is

JPM won't be winning anything as long as he's driving a Dodge and for Ganassi Racing.
He'll win at least 2 Cup races this year. Not to mention what he's already accomplished in his career, more than any Cup driver not named Stewart, Tony.

you really think he'll win two races this year? and will they be something other than the road courses, where he'll be more than an odds on favorite.

The only way he'll lose the road course races is if the car fails him or someone spins him out on the last lap. No one would be close enough to do that, but there will be the obligatory caution with 5 or so laps to go.

I don't think he has a DNF so far this season, that to me is the most impressive thing about him so far. He takes care of the car exceptionally well for a guy with his limited experience in fendercars and once he visits some of the tracks for the second time he'll be tough.

i'm curious to see what he does this weekend, especially since he's been to Talladega before, albeit in a Busch car. i will most difinately have him programed into my scanner.

The Ganassi cars were strong at Daytona, I won't be surprised if he leads some laps.

Of course, over half the field will.

JPM is not my favorite driver by far, but if he can keep a cool head in the heat of the moment, he stands a good chance to win a race this year.

I agree with the benefit of the doubt statement,I also think Smoke will give it back!In the next few races Smoke will get him(JPM)back,if he (JPM)is as arrogant as seems, IMHO most of the drivers will not go with him in the draft this week or try and help on smaller tracks.

His best chances to win a race will be at the road courses, obviously...But he just better not hope Smoke isn't behind him when he's in the lead because Smoke won't care at all to lay the chrome horn to him
