If they were to remove the plates, the cars would absolutely fly.

Over the weekend Kenny Wallace said that a couple of years ago Rusty Wallace did a test run at Talladega without the plate and did a lap at 230 mph.

Obviously, that would be awesome to see, but it would be highly dangerous. I don't mind the bump drafting rule to a degree, but it seemed the drivers were cautious and tentative the whole race up until the last 20 laps or so.

I remember when RW did this. He was going so fast that his headset in the car was malfunctioning.

yeah, he said he had to lift in the turns. I think he topped out at over 230 with a avg lap time around 223.

yeah, just saying a win would have gotten it within 50 points or so.

nobody was going to beat either of the Busch brothers, unless it was gas mileage.

-Martin dominated the first Phoenix race
-Martin is taking the car he used to dominate Chicago to Homestead
-Johnson lost 72 points to Carl Edwards last year at Homestead
-Johnson has never won at Homestead

a long shot? sure. no way? not so much.

Anything can happen, nobody expected him to wreck on lap 3 at Texas either.

I think Martin has more than a long shot. Just as you say, he dominated Phoenix earlier, and Mark is more hungry. There have been much larger leads lost than Johnson's current one with two races left. I also think the 48 team will be more in a race not to lose mode while the 5 team will be in a win or nothing mode.

Then there are the behind the scene factors, would NASCAR rather see continued domination by the 48 over a win by the fan favorite? A debris caution at just the right time can be very influential in the middle of green flag pit stops. Would Hendrick rather see Mark win? Equipment at HMS has seemed to be more equal before.

Nobody has a chance.(I'm hoping somebody will be able to come back to this and tell me how wrong I was...)
