Nate Spillman in portal

Here's the deal. I doubt it's true that they are staying after entering the portal. Maybe they are but it would seem to be pretty awkward for all involved. That’s just common sense not "spin". As you said though, we'll wait and see if they are all on the travel roster for Columbus. I doubt they are, but it shouldn't be a problem unless we suffer additional injuries in the playoff run. Rather than caring about this particular issue though, I mostly spoke up just to scoff at the Jonestown types on here who try to act like losing 4 guys in one position group in a week is not worthy of discussion.
Free agents play in the NFL while their team knows they’re probably bolting all the time

Arkansas better be pleading with some of their portal guys to stick around through the bowl game or they’ll have to get some walk ons from the student body. Supposedly have 24 players in the portal. I’m sure the Liberty Bowl is really happy. Saw that most of Marshall’s team declared after their coach left. Pretty crazy out there.

Perhaps the two tight end attack will be the preferred offensive formation, for however long we last in the playoffs...The sub players saw they were not going to be a major part of the air attack and departed...Pure logic.

In my uneducated opinion, that would be a great way to go. Sure hands and blocking works..

It's obvious, by the type of players leaving, we are going to be running the ball right at their defense....Since we are considered a very strong running team, it makes perfect sense....Of course Ohio has to prepare for both air and ground attack, but our guys run the ball real well.

Imagine being a WR who is staying with the Vols being subbed for in the playoffs by a guy who is in the portal.

It creates an interesting team vibe to play guys who intend to transfer over guys who are staying. I know we always platoon at WR, so it's better than some other positions, but it's still a little weird.

Yeah but nobody we bring in can play in the playoff game(s), this hurts our depth at the position to lose 4 guys, even if we are bringing in Randy Moss, Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison and TO next year. We'll probably be fine but we can't afford many new injuries in that room.
We'll be fine. Brazell will be back with White. I believe there is full trust in M Mathews, also. Staley will be relied upon heavily next year, as well. Hopefully, T Smith Jr balls out.

I don't doubt we are fine with our starters, I just think our depth has taken a hit with recent portal departures at the position (that can't be replaced during the playoffs), so we better not have a rash of new injuries.

So that leaves Squirrel, Brazzell, Matthews and Staley coming back and Smith, Jackson and Dodson coming in…pretty safe to say will go for at least one in the portal assuming these numbers hold
Hopefully making room for Ryan Williams Alabama…. Still some rumors he is hitting the portal

I think they will prepare for the run and the pass somewhere is likely to be open. If they are able to stop the run early, we will have a rough day scoring points.

Yup, and LSU with 16 in portal so far. Losing their best WR (Lacey) to NFL draft, and 3 others declared for portal, with only one wr, Anderson, saying he's back, and 2 others on the watch list for leaving. Also losing best two TEs. Also, 4 out of 5 OL starters, leaving them with only 3 OL guys who have even played. And this is just the O. The D is prob in worse shape. CBK ... LOL!

Nico is going to have to throw the ball and catch it himself at this rate. lol. I know its just depth but dang
2 of the 4 recievers didn’t even travel for away games. I know you’re just joking but a lot of people are getting worried about the wr unit, and I remember last year when all of our DBs started transferring how worried everybody was. Turns out the coaching staff rlly found some gems out the portal. I expect em to do the same , but as far as playoff depth goes we will be fine. Wr is the deepest unit for the Vols .

THEN here is THE deal, making accusatory statements on VOLS based on ASSumptions, calculations, your own application of common sense without benefit of hard facts does not warrant a free pass, free speech and all.

Come back when you have some substantiated info demonstrating character challenging acts, not some WORD wafting in the air. Until then it is like trying to justify fumbles, interceptions, or maybe more like in kind, UNNECESSARY dead ball personal fouls.

How is it that much different than using a guy going early to the NFL or running out of eligibility? Not a going forward contributor.

If the staff and the player agree he should play, I am good. Just that simple. Hopefully the NCAA can find a way to push portal entry window dates beyond playoff dates. WITH heavy tampering rules for the institutions and collectives.

Hitting the portal "early" is about school registration. If a player isn't registered for Spring, they can't practice in the Spring.

If they'd just drop the requirement that a kid actually enroll in the school he plays for......

I think we should have gone after Concepcion from NC State. Would have been a great addition to the WR room!! He is has 2 more years to play.

Listen Don Quixote, all I said was I doubt the guys who have entered the portal will play in the playoffs and no one here has offered any proof they will, so no one is trafficking in anything substantiated. I also don't know what the hell you are talking about with character challenging acts. I said nothing about the character of these kids. You are writing your own script there, tilting at windmills.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Travis Smith on the field next season for us. We had a really good wr class that came in. I don’t expect us to spend a lot of money on the receiver position in the portal.
