I kid you not..when I was living in Huntsville I bought road maps and eventually learned my way around, backroads, shortcuts and names of roads.
Living in Houston and just listening to the lady..even 3 years later if you dropped me off 5 miles from home..I would struggle to get home.
Fri AM at 7 am, I took my daughter and SIL to Nashville airport. 65N from Saturn Pkwy to the airport had no rush hour traffic. We arrived 25 min earlier than we expected.
Is that changes to driving habits from gas prices? Remote working? Too early for the rush?
That's a good question. I think the MadDog (MD88) was the last airplane that didn't have it, and it's been gone a couple of years now. But I would bet that number is pretty close to zero. My airplane has a feature that I can see how many satellites we are using, and it is always between 9 and 12. Amazing stuff.
When I was a kid, I was a map geek and still am to a degree. I studied the plethora of maps my Dad had while riding in the backseat on long road trips. To this day, I can get in the car and drive basically anywhere in the US without GPS or a map. My go to literature on the throne is an atlasNice .. it’s a dying art and if something strange ever happens a lot of people are going to be just wandering around trying to figure out what the hell a mile marker is Lol
Assuming the Huntsville in AL, that's about the weirdest place I've ever driven. None of the roads there make much sense. The access roads are a great concept, but they missed to boat on those, too. At least with the intestate, you can connect both ends of US-72 and get from one side of town to the other with some semblance of sanity left.

People are definitely curbing their spending especially when it comes to gas. Came to the lake yesterday, fully expecting to park in remote lot and have to be shuttled to the marina. Surely the week before the 4th weekend would be overrun with lake people? Not at all. 20-30 parking spots within 100' of the ramp to the marina.
Our marina was purchased last fall from a small local, self managed group by a huge company that owns hundreds of marinas managed by assholes. That may have something to do with it. I'm leaving at the end of the summer. Was planning on already being gone but kids wanted me to wait until the end of the season.OHL was busy yesterday
