National Title?

General Neyland's game maxim no. 6........Press the kicking game. This is where the breaks are made.

And that's exactly what Florida did.

Ok, please elaborate. Just how is UT officially OUT of the MNC picture?

To me, there are still too many opportunities left to impress the pollsters. Wins @LSU, over UGA, @ Bama and @ ND (not to mention what Vandy will be like when we play them) have me believeing that we could possibily be back in the hunt by mid November.

Why do you think we are out of it?

I have seen a program be detroyed first hand. I have seen things starting to come apart over the course of several years in another program. I am merely stating the obvious

Alabama's program is quite obvious to see

I totally agree. 4 of the Vols' next 6 games are against ranked opponents. 3 of those are on the road. 2 are ranked in the top 6. If the Vols win those, and don't misstep against an unranked opponent, then they'll definately be in the top 4.

Louisville doesn't matter, as almost any 1-loss team from a power conference will be ranked over them.

Texas has a tough schedule, and I would not be surprised to see them lose at least once.

And I give no response to the Alabama faithful who try to hijack forums. They've made no worthwhile comments so far.... just spitting out the same vile they've all been brainwashed to believe. Fulmer is the dean of SEC coaches. He wins right at 80% of his games. He beats Alabama almost every year (only 1 loss EVER). And I predict he'll win at least 2 more national titles before he retires. All the while the Bama  folks will still be living in the past.

In my opinion the Vols were never in the National Championship hunt.

They lost to Florida, they will lose to LSU, they will lose to Georgia, they will lose to Alabama.

They will struggle to beat Notre Dame and Vandy.

I see the Vols going 7-4 or maybe 6-5

They have to get rid of Sanders, revamp the defense, and Fulmer must regain control of the team.
And this is meant as a constructive reply.

Revamp the defense? Did you watch the game? Florida and UM's "revolutionary" offense got nothing all game. Your team needs to actually get a little better than the music city bowl before you talk about anything UT.

Not out of it by any means.

But for sure you are on life support and someone is reaching for the plug...

As I've said on here before, now you worry about LSU. If you don't win that one, then BCS is virtually out of the question.

Never thought I'd say this - but I have to agree with the gator :D

We would have to win out and get some help. Texas is sitting pretty with Oklahoma in a down year, and even if USC loses one guess who gets the nod between a one loss USC and a one loss UT. FLA would also need to lose at least 2.

Well, I think there is a better than even chance that the Gators will cooperate with your scenario. With 'bama, LSU, Ga., and FSU still to go for Florida, it is going to be very tough to avoid two losses. Heck, I'm worried about Kentucky this week. Would be ultra easy for us to come out flat and find ourselves down a bunch quick for first road game.

KY has all the talent of an NAIA team right now. They are a mash unit.

After saturday are you concerned about you offensive scheme vs. the speed in the SEC? I was surprised by UF's defense and how well they played but either UT has an awsome defense or that system will struggle in the SEC. What did you take from it?

We have an outside shot, but its possible.

If we win out, UF loses 2 SEC games, we take the east, ebat whoever wins the west, then everyone else up top happens to have a loss.

I would'nt say completely out of it. Just one foot out the door and the other one with 4 toes out. Even if we get our problems fixed there are still at least 2 teams that should go undefeated. No I'm not talking about USC. I'm talking about Texas and Louisville. USC has a tougher schedule than Texas and I don't even want to talk about Louisville's schedule. USC plays 5 ranked teams , Texas plays 1. Texas Tech at home. They should be undefeated going into the season ending matchup at A&M. Then there is Louisville. Not a ranked team in sight and no conference title game. With the way UT is playing right now I'm not thinking about a national title just about LSU.

probably a bama fan in disguise.

Very easy, this Offensive coaching staff is in disarray(don't believe me then go back and watch them on the sidelines), The team has no leader on offense, The offense is not physical and both Fulmer and Sanders are playing tug of war with the playcalling and who's playing QB. The kicking game is a mess and 5 days will not correct it. UT has a National Championship calibre Defense and a Pop Warner Offense.
I'll stop here. LSU-17, UT-7

As to UF offense, I am concerned but for a different reason than speedy defenses.

I find the whole line up in the shotgun and then everyone look over to the sidelines thing to be very disconcerting. There is no rhythm. When you are running and pounding a defense and putting them back on their heels for the pass, I think you have to call the play, go, call the next, go, call the next, go. I don't like the thing where everyone seems so ... I don't know ... unsure? Seems to rob them of momentum.

Speedy defenses don't bother me. I don't know if you noticed, but on the first series for UF you twice blitzed corners and both resulted in sacks. The first play on the next series, you blitzed again and Leak immediately threw to the safety valve back. A great adjustment and the corner blitzes really slowed down at that point. There are ways to trap speedy defenses.

As to UF's defense, I was thrilled with the pass defense. Granted the UT QB's had a bad night and none of your receivers made a lot of big plays, but I credit the fact that a blue shirt was in their face all up and down the sidelines for part of that.

Not as happy with the run defense, but we knew that was a weakness to begin with. I'd like to see us blitz a little more just to disrupt and I'd also like to see better gap coverage. But, all in all, against your massive O-line it was better than I expected.

Well, I hope you are wrong (as I am sure we all are). Just a situation where the coaches arent developing the talent

:eek:lol: :eek:lol: :eek:lol:

I am as big a fan as the rest of you but reality is reality.

Fulmer and his staff can recruit with the best of them, too DAMN bad they can't prepare and coach their players up to the same way.

Continually, the coaches rely on talent alone and guess what, look at the Coaches in the SEC now, they are the best in the Nation from top to bottom. This is where the top caliber Coaches come. And they beat the Vols because the Coaching staff is lacking. Chavis is fine in my book always has been. I don't care if Sanders is Fulmer's whipping boy or calling Fulmers plays. Something has got to change or take the show to the Big 10 where that might work.

With the exception of 1998 where we had incredible talent and all the stars lined up. I can't say that we have over-achieved or beat expectations in some time. That is on the COACHING STAFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with many of you. Some tough times to follow.

LSU, Georgia, Alabama, and ND all look like hurdles at this point. I think 2-2 out of that may be optimistic.

Looks like a 4 loss regular season and another non-BSC bowl game.

Is this enough to at least raise some eyes in Knoxville?????????

Sorry but not good enough in my mind when discussing BIG ORANGE FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yuck:

I am going to say this from my heart.... When CPF's helm at UT is over, he is going to leave behind one of the biggest messes in history, and coming from a Bama fan i know it doesnt mean much.

Twelve now you are just showing your ignorance. I am sure you can really tell from a loss to Florida that Fulmer going to leave behind one of the biggest "messes" in history. Give me a break. That may be how it is in your dreams at night but you better have some substance before coming on here and throwing around allegations like that, even if it is just your opinion.

Its not his Freak. Its what he reads from his messiah, Tommy Gallion.

Are we out of the hunt for the NC? yep as of now , but since we still have several games with top 10 teams and if we could pull out wins against them and some things happen to the teams ranked higher we might get back in in the last weeks of the year if we won the SEC, thats a lot of big if's though, if we could beat GA. this year It would be enough for me at this point.
