Once Upon a Time's Peter Pan Joins NBC's Heroes Reborn Miniseries

Once Upon a Time'sPeter Pan Joins NBC's Heroes Reborn Miniseries

A Storybrooke baddie is poised to become a real hero.

Robbie Kay, who played the bratty Peter Pan on ABC’s Once Upon a Time, has been cast in Heroes Reborn, the miniseries based on NBC’s popular drama.

The 13-episode endeavor from Heroes creator Tim Kring will reconnect with the basic elements of the show’s first season — where ordinary people were waking up to the fact that they had extraordinary abilities.

Per our sister site Deadline, Kay will play a new character — aka not one seen on Heroes.

Heroes Reborn‘s cast also includes Zachary Levi (Chuck) and Jack Coleman, who’ll reprise his role from the original series.

MASI OKA TO RETURN AS HIRO NAKAMURA ON NBC’S ‘HEROES REBORN’

MASI OKA TO RETURN AS HIRO NAKAMURA ON NBC’S ‘HEROES REBORN’

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — March 27, 2015 — Masi Oka (“Heroes,” “Hawaii Five-0”) will reprise his Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated role as Hiro Nakamura for a guest-starring arc of episodes on NBC’s new event series “Heroes Reborn,” which will premiere in fall 2015.

“I’m excited to return to my ‘Heroes’ roots,” said Oka. “Hiro Nakamura was such an inspirational role to play, and I’m hoping the fans will enjoy seeing him back on TV.”

“We are thrilled to have Masi back in the ‘Heroes’ family,” said creator/executive producer Tim Kring. “The character of Hiro Nakamura was such a huge part of the first series’ success, and a gigantic fan favorite. We felt the fans would really love seeing him back in action again.”

Oka can currently be seen in the role of the eccentric Coroner on the hit series “Hawaii Five-0.” He has also recurred on NBC’s “Scrubs” and Fox’s “Luis” and guest-starred on “Without a Trace,” “Joey,” “Reba“Still Standing,” “Will & Grace,” “Yes, Dear” and “The Gilmore Girls.” Oka recently appeared in the feature film “JOBS” and is stepping behind the camera on the feature-film adaption of the worldwide phenomenon Japanese Anime “Deathnote,” which he will produce with VIZ Productions, Dan Lin, and Roy Lee. He starred in the feature-film remake “Get Smart” and its companion DVD release, “Get Smarter.” His other feature film credits include “Along Came Polly,” “Austin Powers in Goldmember,” and “Friends with Benefits.”

With a background in improvisation, Oka has appeared at the Groundlings, ImprovOlympics, Second City and guest starred as various characters on “Punk’d,” “Reno 911” and “The Jamie Kennedy Experiment.” He is working with Yoshimoto to bring the famed Second City to Japan and thereby introducing American improv to that market. Oka also works behind the scenes as an advisor to JETRO and a cultural envoy to the U.S. Embassy, bridging the gap between Japan and Hollywood in the arts and business. After graduating Brown University with degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science and a Theatre Arts minor, Oka pursued an acting career while taking his first job at George Lucas’ Oscar-winning special effects house Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) providing technology for groundbreaking effects for more than 30 films. Oka’s strong background in computer science laid the groundwork for his starting Mobius Digital, a gaming company that has successfully launched several apps with more in development. He sits on the Celebrity Cabinet of the American Red Cross. Oka was born in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to Los Angeles at age six, where he currently resides.

From creator/executive producer Tim Kring, who imagined the original critically-acclaimed 2006 “Heroes” series, comes “Heroes Reborn,” an epic 13-episode event series that chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities. The cast includes Jack Coleman (“Heroes”), Zachary Levi (NBC’s “Chuck”), Ryan Guzman (“The Boy Next Door”), Robbie Kay (“Once Upon A Time”), Danika Yarosh (“Shameless”), Judith Shekoni (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2”), Kiki Sukezane (“Death Yankee 3”), Henry Zebrowski (NBC’s “A to Z”) and Gatlin Green (“Criminal Minds”).

Produced by Imperative Entertainment, in association with Universal Television, “Heroes Reborn” will air in fall 2015 on NBC. NBC’s digital platforms, as well as Hulu and video-on-demand, will debut an online prequel to the series prior to the show’s premiere. Joining Kring are executive producers James Middleton and Peter Elkoff.

This show had one of the better theme songs. Strange but I miss hearing that. It starts out beautifully.

Heroes Reborn adds Dexter alum as series regular

Heroes Reborn adds Dexter alum as series regular

Rya Kihlstedt has joined the cast of Heroes Reborn as a series regular, EW has learned exclusively.

Details on the Dexter alum’s role are being kept under wraps, so it’s unclear whether she’s playing hero or villain. But you may also recognize Kihlstedt from Masters of Sex and Nashville.

Kihlstedt joins previously cast Heroes newcomers Zachary Levi, Ryan Guzman, Robbie Kay, Kiki Sukezane, Judith Shekoni, Danika Yarosh, Henry Zebrowski and Gatlin Green. Original cast members Jack Coleman, Masi Oka and Jimmy Jean-Louis will also reprise their roles.

The 13-episode event series, which will feature a brand-new story and set of characters, is expected to debut later this year.

Reports are that the show will premier this fall!

Greg Grunberg returning for NBC Revival

Greg Grunberg returning for NBC revival

Another major character from Heroes is returning for NBC’s revivial.

EW has exclusively learned that Greg Grunberg—who played the telepathic detective Matt Parkman throughout the first iteration of the series—is officially on board for Heroes Reborn.

We’re told Grunberg will have a guest star arc on the new series, which airs Thursday nights this fall on NBC.

He’s joining fellow returning stars Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura and Jack Coleman as Noah Bennet, as well as newcomer to the show Zachary Levi (Chuck).

Grunberg previously said he was down for coming back to the show: “Well, you know, it’d be great to use that cop character as an investigative tool to find new people with power,” he told interviewer Rick Yaeger last year. “I’m excited as a fan, to see what happens. If I can be a part of this, I would jump at the chance…None of us have been notified. We have no idea what’s going on. They hinted that they might use some of the old characters to move story and plot. I think the fans or whoever was watching the show before, which was the world, really wants closure. I don’t know how they would do this without using some of the main characters. I hope that they include me.”

Grunberg recently had a starring role in the ABC pilot Warriors, which didn’t get picked up. But he’s also got a part in an upcoming film called Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which we suspect will get some attention. The actor also had an arc on Showtime’s Masters of Sex last year.

Anybody catch the 2 hour season premiere?

I just got through watching it and it was pretty good.

Originally Hayden Panettiere turned down Heroes Reborn because she was working on Nashville. Looking at the numbers though Nashville has been losing viewers at a steady rate since it's series premiere. It started out this year with 4.91 million viewers and will likely lose no less than 1 million by the end of this season. At 3.9 million viewers that puts Nashville in the hot seat by the end of this season. This means she could possibly come back.

Come back to what? Isn't this supposed to be just a limited run miniseries, or whatever they are calling it?

Not sure what the ratings were like but, from what little I've seen, it doesn't look like the reviews are too hot.

Nashville has been on the bubble for the past 2 years. I think it's generally thought that baring a surge in the ratings, this is probably the last season.

It's currently just a one time thing but my guess if it does well enough, it will be a regular thing. I doubt it will ever come back as a 20+ episode season series like before but I can see them agreeing to a 10-13 episode season. Which is what it should be as networks haven't seem to figure that out yet.

I DVRd it but haven't watched yet. I'm not expecting a whole lot as the original series sucked after Season 2 and the previews haven't blown me away.

Oh yeah, if there are ratings there will definitely be more but I'll be surprised if they end up being very good.

I didn't even bother with the DVR because of how bad that show got after the first season (or two, I guess). If it had come out to rave reviews I probably would've tracked it down OnDemand but it doesn't look like that's going to be necessary.

I think the second season is ok, and I tend to give it some benefit of the doubt because the writer's strike at the time royally screwed up their season. It was going pretty well until the strike then had to scramble to finish the season and that's when things started to go off the rails IMHO.

The 4th season is so bad I kept watching it just to see how awful it could get. I mean a whole episode where Sylar tries to make Claire be more open? Seriously?

Watched the first episode this weekend.....meh. I'll probably watch it but it didn't impress me very much.

The ratings were pretty unimpressive as well, as it was basically the same rating as Season 4's premiere.

Alright, since this is the Heroes Reborn thread and not the Heroes thread let's discuss this series.

Finally caught up and watched the first 3 episodes. I guess they are pretty good it held my attention to watch them all back to back.

Yet just like Heroes the first time around it jumped all over the place. The only characters I seem to care for is HRG, the kid who makes things disappear and his friends and the Japanese girl.

I'm pretty underwelmed; instead of fixing the problems that had the series going down they've merely continued the meh.

The reviews have been lukewarm and the ratings have dropped to the 4.0 range.

I'm two episodes in (I guess 3? Since the premiere was 2).

It's hard to follow. Lots of questions and unknowns.
