'24 NC DL Amaris Williams (Auburn))

We will get a portion of our starting OL to stay. But we graduate backups like Crawford, Lane, Lampley, and Davis. So we don’t want ALL of them to leave at once. Some of the portal gets can be to simply upgrade your bench. We have a lot of unknowns from the past 2 recruiting cycles. This might be the key to next years team.
True. But some guys like Grant, Nichols, Lang, Umarov, etc. should also develop and provide depth. I guess the number of portal guys we take depends largely on how much the staff thinks the young guys will develop (as well as how many Covid seniors return).

In speaking with sources close to the recruitment Ohio State has done just about everything right up to this point. The visit over the weekend was enough to show Williams and his family that the Buckeyes are serious about him being part of the program. While he still has an official visit to Tennessee on deck for this weekend, if the Buckeyes can withstand that trip to Knoxville, there is a good chance this recruitment will change from orange and blue to scarlet and gray.

The official visit isn't for this weekend anymore
So is he coming for an OV when there is no game? Or is this, in your opinion, a slide to cancelling? One could suppose he would be able to get more individual attention a different time, but it is peculiar not to want to see a game environment.

It worked the first couple of years but now that Tennessee will consistently be going against the top dogs in recruiting, the board will need to expand. You won’t win all those battles so it will anyway so do it early and establish the relationships. Still not sure why they haven’t at least extended an offer to Wiggins, the VT WR commit

I would assume it’s because they feel like we have a lot of young WR talent already and they can address the instant impact player in the portal. And I don’t necessarily disagree.

We won’t be experienced next year, but I doubt Wiggins changes that at all. You still have White, Nimrod, Webb, Matthews, Thornton, Staley, Leacock, and possibly McCoy if he takes a medical redshirt and returns. They probably will go after 1-2 WR in the portal, so even if you miss on Mikell, I don’t know where a project like Wiggins fits into our equation. Just being honest.

I don't necessarily disagree but if they end up wanting to add another young X, he's the guy. If it were me I'd offer and then if it turns out you don't have room for him, you don't have room. But not offering and getting him up takes the chance of landing him if need be away. Only X guys on roster for next year are Webb and Leacock if Bru leaves. Granted I would want a vet there but even if you bring back Bru, he just has one year left here imo
