'21 NC DT Payton Page (Clemson commit)

Seems like Clemson's staff as a whole wasn't always high on him, as Page is probably best suited as a true space eating nose tackle, and they run a 4-man front. But I think Venables has personally made Page a priority and convinced his colleagues that he could get in shape and play a 3 technique. I'd love to be surprised but feels like they have the momentum here.

UNC insiders apparently believe he is a Vol
Really? Who?

UNC 247 just posted an update saying Vols have been eliminated and it’s either UNC or Clemson. But that Clemson sources feels like they’ll will be the pick.

VQ guys have been saying he’s still talking to UT but leaning Clemson for awhile now.

I kept hearing Clemson was always worried about his weight because they run a scheme with more trim D linemen. Then Page up and trims his weight down and suddenly Clemson sounds like a front runner again. Guess we’ll find out later today, it seems. Personally, he’s way more suited to the scheme we run and could fit in well here as a nose tackle. He’s definitely a great sized gap stopper.

Not going to lie, any change or schedule on these things are going to read as a good sign since Clemson has been looked as the leader for a while. Why change it if everything else is the same?

Page’s finalists are Clemson, UNC, and Tennessee. However, according to a source, the Volunteers have been eliminated.
As of Sunday, per a source, Page has not told UNC’s coaches his intentions. But, there are some in the Kenan Football Building who believe UNC will be the selection, a source told me. After months of sporadic communication from just Page’s mother, Page has been communicating with UNC -- including a Zoom meeting last Wednesday with defensive coordinator Jay Bateman and defensive line coach Tim Cross, a source said -- and his mother has texted daily with Cross. But, they’ve been tight-lipped on Tuesday’s selection.
Meanwhile, a Clemson contact fully expects the Tigers to score Page’s commitment.

At one point, North Carolina was thought to be basically out of it. Page later became more receptive to the Tar Heels, though, so I definitely wouldn’t say it’s just a two-team race anymore.
Nothing I’ve heard has indicated he’s likely to pick anyone other than Clemson.

Page, now a projection to Clemson by Tigerillustrated.com, is the lone defensive tackle the staff credibly offered and pursued the entire cycle.

AP said on the latest VQ Podcast that Clemson wanted Page to drop weight and get in shape earlier in the year before he could commit.

Page has done that and now is ready to commit...It’s Clemson and has always been Clemson.

I agree...we put up a good fight but I think he's Clemson bound as well.
