'20 NC QB Navy Shuler

If I was ranking the best performances by a Tennessee QB (considering the quality of the opponent and importance of the game), I would put Shuler vs Georgia in '92 at #1. JMO.

I agree. The best game I ever saw live. We had season tickets for 20 years, and I would put that one ahead of the 97 Ark game.

That game is when I started disliking UGA and their rude students. When we were walking into the stadium one came up to me and knocked my cap off then took off. After the game they were pounding on the car with Brent Musberger in it screaming for him to go home or worse.

Shular was outstanding in the game.

If I remember correctly.......there was a lot of questions about Bo's "injury" that day.......

My fav Vols were Streeter, Hancock, Robinson, then Heath

If you watch the replay of where Randy Campbell and Bo bobbled the handoff (and fumbled), Bo is on his knees looking to the side reaching for the ball. Tennessee's backup NT (the JUCO that played at NEO) comes in at full steam and absolutely flattens him while everyone else is going for the ball. Bo probably had concussion-like symptoms after that hit.

Red State cheap shot, bet he's wealthier than you! You made that statement b/c he served in the congress as a democrat. That's what is called a "veiled reference." :frown:

He is probably wealthier than most people on this board since he is a former member of congress and is now on the board of Duke Power. Just like all of the other privileged Democratic ex-congressmen who used their political position to become wealthy.

My question would be if he is now using his political influence to benefit Duke Power at the expense of their consumers? That is Deep State politics at its best.

Not in a political discussion, but I believe Mr Shuler got rich using football. That $19 million signing bonus came around a long time before any political bs.

Heath got Fulmer the head job. Two surprise upsets of Florida and Georgia got the season hopes up. Majors came back early, we won a few and then lost 3 straight which done Johnny in. I loved Heath and enjoyed watching him play more than Manning.

Not sure which video it was, if it was 98 Nat reunion or Peyton celebration video. But, Ward and I believe Manning and Martin as well as one of the older guys..: were interviewed. I wish I could recall that video

Anyway, one of the older guys, Ward I believe recalled in fact Phillip was one of the hottest, if not THE hotrest names of coaches in the nation when he was hired. I believe UCLa offered him? I recall maybe seeing or hearing that. could be wrong on the UCLA part.

The interpretation I got was that if UT didnt hire Phillip someone else would have. And, when Majors was hospitalized they really didnt know if he would be back or not. UT hired Phillip because of the job Phillip did as interim, but, also bc of the reputation he had earned as an OC, line coach, recruiter, and GA.

Heath was a gamer. No doubt. Manning didnt have the physical skill set Heath possessed. My goodness if he had.

I think we can all agree what separates Peyton is his noggin', pedigree, and work ethic. Peyton outworked everyine, and, surrounded himself with perhaps a better supprting cast on O. This is conjecture. But, if you followed him in Pro's, he seemed to make run of the mill players better. Heath would tuck the ball and run the option. Peyton didnt have that capability, maybe on a once in a blue moon nekked bootleg?!

He was incredible. Most physically gifted UT QB I’ve ever seen play.

Follow me here. What if?? What IF Dobber had a coach?!

What say you sir?

Arkansas was hot for him and that’s where he’d have ended up imo. He’s SEC all the way.

Wasn’t Auburn after him as well?

It ended up being Pat Dye’s final season but they were always going full Bowden considering Tommy was their OC and they ended up hiring Terry. Danny Ford had less than nothing and Arkansas was identifying candidates right when Fulmer emerged as the shiny new thing.

"It was good," Shuler said. "I got to meet all the coaches and got to see all the new facilities which was nice. I really enjoyed the entire trip. It was different being here as a recruit. I got treated more as Navy Shuler and not Heath Shuler's son."

After a tour of all that Tennessee has to offer, the 2020 quarterback prospect went to Jeremy Pruitt's office to spend time with the first year Vol head coach. It was a good chance to get a feel for what Pruitt is like behind the scenes and have a good chat about the direction of the offense.

"We talked about how the offense is going to look next year," Shuler said. "Just how the team is looking during workouts. He told me that coach (Tyson) Helton is going to come in during the spring and watch my throw and my team practice. Coach Helton and coach Pruitt were talking about how important it is to have quality people around you."

"Coach Helton was a great guy," Shuler said. "He told me that it was going to a lot of 11 and 12 personnel. He said it will be a slower offense than last season as they slow it down and they would be big on making corrections in the second half."

IMHO, Heath was the next Bret Farve. He would cock that arm and start running around the end on a roll-out. The LBs didn't know whether to pursue or fall into coverage. He could throw for 50 ("on a rope") or run for 9. He was built like a stocky RB - but could throw. His last year Cutcliffe turned him into a pocket-passer and in my opinion ruined his potential greatness at UT - but probably improved his chances in the NFL.

Crazy because I was just about to make that same comparison before I read your post. Spot on.
