Tone in this interview an article seems to indicate NCAA intends to really punish violators in order to serve notice that violating the rules won't be allowed. Hopefully the brunt of the punishment follows Pearl and not TN.

"We cannot have coaches, administrators, parents or student-athletes sitting out there deciding: 'Is this worth the risk? If I conduct myself in this fashion and I get caught, it's still worth the risk,'" Emmert said. "We don't want those kinds of cost-benefit analyses going on."

"Maybe by the time Emmert takes to the Final Four dais next year, there will be a few more big-time cheaters’ skins nailed to the wall."

Doesn't sound too encouraging, does it?

However, I will add this. Pearl brought all of this upon the team, and the even worse part, is that all of it could have been avoided by simply telling the truth and not trying to outfox the NCAA.

The NCAA is quite a bastard of an athletic sanctioning body. Uneven punishments, investigations taking years to complete, among other things. However, whatever the NCAA hands down upon us is probably deserved, even though most will disagree with me.

Depends who they want to go after ... the pride of the BIG 10 " Ohio State " ... the National Champions " Auburn Tigers " ... or a team in disarray " Tennessee ". Gee I wonder which one they would pick.

But they did spend 3 or so years going after a dynasty in USC football

Until the NCAA forces Ohio State to fire Tressel, I will have no respect for them.

and how's that going?

Well, USC got nailed actually. It was in the paper. The result wasn't my point, my point was that at least once, the AA went after a dynasty, not just a poor downtrodden program. You were saying they wouldn't go after an Aub or OSU, and they may not. However, they did slam USC who was more elite than Auburn

They won't have to; Ohio State will probably do it themselves.

From what I see, Ohio State has shown no interest in wanting to fire Tressel.. Who in my opinion has committed way worse offences than Pearl.

Their players being able to play in the bowl game also pisses me off beyond belief. I cannot see how the NCAA is even taken seriously at all. They can put articles out like this, but when they act the way they have this past year, it doesn't matter.

Agree. That bowl game situation was a new level even for the NCAA. I will never figure out how that was allowed. I still laugh at Emmert's comment that a TCU or Boise has just as much chance at national title game than BCS school

True, but from my knowledge, the leadership there isn't exactly great.

Just one man's opinion, but I'd be surprised to see Coach Tressel coaching the Buckeyes in 3 years.

Right or wrong, it is only a matter of time before the federal government starts investigating the NCAA.

Especially if the NCAA selectively imposes itself on certain state's institutions and overlooks the transgressions at others.

Congress is overflowing with buffoons and limelight- seeking morons. However, I would take some satisfaction in knowing the NCAA was feeling the same heat it brings down upon the schools it investigates.

Karma.

Only if their ad is gone. Didn't the AD say he would be lucky if Tressel didn't decide to fire him? Sounds like Hammy and their AD would be good bffs.

JT basically took a dump on the NCAA rulebook. I don't understand why there aren't ways to expedite the punishment process. Hell, wouldn't we have been better off if the NCAA had just suspended Bruce in September? Instead, we're stuck playing this game of trying to figure out what the NCAA will or won't approve. Then, those standards change on a case by case basis. Stupid.

Hammy knew what the allegations against Pearl were. He should've suspended or fired him at that time instead of waiting to see if they could wiggle out of sanctions. If Tressel isn't gone in disgrace I will be greatly surprised.

I feel the same way about Cam playing in the NC game. Should not have been allowed.
