NCAA Prez' Tone indicates sanctions will be hard on violating programs

Hammy knew what the allegations against Pearl were. He should've suspended or fired him at that time instead of waiting to see if they could wiggle out of sanctions. If Tressel isn't gone in disgrace I will be greatly surprised.

True. Not meaning to give Bruce/Hammy any excuses.

Emmert is a joke.

The NCAA is a joke.

This. Jason Whitlock said it best when he said the NCAA is just collapsing under it's own system. The whole thing is a joke. I wish the colleges would just form a new organization that actually gives a damn about the athletes, but there is too much money being made so it will never change.

I wonder which set of rules they tend to enforce? The set they have for the Ohio State's of the world or the ones for everyone else. The NCAA is a joke.

Everything about the NCAA, bowl games, and most universities is based on the the money making machine it has in football and basketball. Any decision they have to make to affect their money machine is a big conflict of interest (see the bowl games). Just sad that bowl games continue to exist when football is the only NCAA sport that doesn't play for direct elimination of contestants to determine a champion. Heck they have a successful model in FCS. Would by funny if the stuff going on at the Fiesta Bowl brought down the whole thing.

That's because the whole system is dirty. These sleaze bags wouldn't have anyway to clean their dirty money without the bowl systems.

Integrity and NCAA should never be in the same sentence. They do what is beneficial for the AA. They are looking stupid since two of the biggest cheaters are facing head to head today and now they need to enforce the rules....& Pearl had to lie about a cookout & were going to get nailed for it, Stupid...

I feel the same way about Cam playing in the NC game. Should not have been allowed.

Right....or any other game past the second week of October. Once it was proven that his dad solicited $, he should have been suspended. Remember Bryce Brown being held out while they looked into Brian Butler? The OSU deal was more brazen due to the dynamics. Never seen a school get busted with ineligible players and the NCAA allow them to put off suspension. What a joke

On a positive note, neither Connecticut nor OH State has received anything near a death penalty for similar infractions.

might as well go out in the back yard and yell at the oak tree to become a maple tree

Well, USC got nailed actually. It was in the paper. The result wasn't my point, my point was that at least once, the AA went after a dynasty, not just a poor downtrodden program. You were saying they wouldn't go after an Aub or OSU, and they may not. However, they did slam USC who was more elite than Auburn

Other than a bowl game what has happend? They got in more kids than anybody this spring and are crying poor mouth on ESPN. If you get punished you shouldn't be able to hire a big rule bender with negative integridy to go around the ncaa to keep them afloat by signing miyear players. Was no punishment last year for Auburn or Ohio but then again the big ten finally got a win against a SEC team must be proud.

Are you crazy?! How could they credit USC with a national championship when LSU was undefeated the same year. If Texas Usc and Ohio had to play real teams they would never make all the ESPN highlights now would they.

Lost a bunch of scholarships and it will hurt them next couple of years. They are appealing ruling which is why they were able to sign so many this year. I believe they have postseason ban next year too if memory serves. Also, the NCAA allowed teams to recruit and member of jr and sr classes. Not a slap on the wrist

Kentucky has been sanctioned multiple times. So has Bama. Auburn has been hammered in the past. So has Kansas. And Oklahoma. And UCLA.

I do not think the NCAA is consistent in its meting of punishment, but to pretend that the big names get a pass is silly.
