You aren't hated if you're not good. There is some cornball **** that Duke does that adds on to the stigma, but largely it's because Duke has been successful for a long period of time with the perceived notion that they are mostly rich white kids from New Jersey or Connecticut. Duke is an easy target to dislike, especially when your rival proclaims to be "the university of the people" and constantly preaches their holier than thou bs.

Don't you bring UNC into this, Mister. We don't need any Duke stink to sully our reputation any further.

Although, you're right about the fact that Duke hardly ever has a down year. The one down year they had, Coach K's back just happened to go out. Go figure.

Underdogs aren't getting it done today. Can't even get last shots off.

I find it hard to believe that wouldn't have been called a foul if the team's were reversed.
