NCAAT Expansion to 96

I actually think that if they expanded it to 68, and let ESPN carry the 4 play in games, it would be pretty good. But, instead of having teams like Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Winthrop on, battling it out for the 16 seeds, have what is currently the last four teams in, and the first four teams out battle for the 12 or 11 seeds.

Who could possibly think this is a good idea (other than coaches with jobs on the line, and AD's of schools that have never made it to the dance)? The first two days of the tournament would suck.

How embarrassing is it if you still miss the field. And do we get complaints from numbers 97, 98, 99… saying that they deserved to make the cut?
They ought to make it a standard clause for all coaching contracts in D-I that if you do not make the tournament for a span of four consecutive years then you automatically lose your job with no severance.

This really, really sucks.

Just imagine the NIT and CBI. No one watches them anyway, but it would end up being NJIT vs Bryant, lol.
I do legitimately feel a little bit for the NIT. They usually do get a tourney bubble team to the MSG that has at least a decent following.

I'm pretty sure that every team from a major conference will now play a post-season tournament, regardless of record now.

96 teams would be awful. You start getting into sub .500 ballclubs at that point, or at least close to it. Do we really want more mediocre teams in the Tourney

It seems like it gives more chances for fans to pay a butt load to see tickets, and it gives the major schools with huge followings a even better road to get to the final four so that their fans keep shelling out the money....that's what it's all about....money money money. Ugh.

it all boils down to money and how much the NCAA can get but when you have first round games involving 8 teams playing in 10,000 seat areanas and can barely fill it, its hard to imagine how much extra money will come from tv. TV pays on viewership and tv viewers dont like to watch empty games played in empty areanas.
Hopefully this is only an April Fools joke.

If you've read the proposed schdule, this also makes the whole "we can't have a football playoff" argument look even more foolish IMO.

And please tell me how the regular season matters at all if this happens... why even play it???

Just start the season in March.

It would be a bit funny if this horrible idea did actually help lead to a football playoff.

But we know the powers that be would be would still trot out the same stale, retarded objections to a football playoff, even when they are contradicting themselves with this 96 team crap.

would that same ol retarded football playoff objections include the $15 million vs $125 million argument?
