NCAAT Game Thread: Lady Vols vs Buffalo/Belmont

Hey, not bad. I like the ANY KIND OF WIN part. But here's my BONA-FIDE FIVE STAR PLATINUM EXPRESS EXECUTIVE BONUS TIP for avoiding stress this year - or any year.

Just cut it off. Seriously. Especially if it's one of those sequences where you watch three missed layups or a bunch of turnovers or one of those wild offensive fouls where you realize you're gripping the TV remote tightly and looking for places you can throw it without breaking it.

"But I can't cut the game off!" Yes you can. No one will ever know. No one will care. Even if you tell someone, they still won't care. Your watching doesn't impact what happens. So just cut it off.

"But every time so-and-so's grandmother wore an orange shawl and watched the game from start to finish, they won." That's a coincidence. Don't be superstitious. Just cut it off.

Now once you've cut the game off, give it a few minutes. Do a chore. Read an article. Invest in questionable altcoins. Let some time pass. Is the game still going? Then turn the TV on and watch some more. Or don't. Check the box score in an hour. Whatever. Just don't let this sort of stuff stress you out.

I know, I KNOW - I'm not too stressed, I can quit any time I want!!
[sweat, sweat]

GLV!!

Jordan W had a great game, with 13 pts; 7 rbs; and 4 assists. The point guard position, with Jordan W and Brooklynn, combined for 18 pts, 10 rbs, and 5 assists. Great game Jordan W and Brooklynn.

Agree,. I think Sara Puckett provided a nice spark in the 2dn half with her three and the rebound and score at a critical point in the game. She is going to need to provide more of that.

I'm probably making too much of this, but so interesting that we get the 7 pm game and UConn gets the 9 pm, both on the main ESPN. Sure thought that would be reversed, especially after Oregon went out. Continued network interest this season is a big step forward.

Going to be tough for the tin foil hatters to make this an ESPN conspiracy.

I googled it LV holds a 6-4 edge over Belmont
Sorry but your Google search is WRONG! Belmont leads the all time series 6-4. My info comes directly from Debby Jennings and UT!
Two of the games were prior to Pat taking over the program (both losses). Pat’s teams were 3-4 against them, and Holly’s teams were 1-0.

Love all Vol teams and the Lady Vols. But we are standing around way to much on offense and that causes turnovers. We stand and get no separation and when the person with the ball stops dribbling everyone is locked up. I love Harper but you better be worried about the turnovers, because our turnovers are often based on people standing and watching the person with the ball. Keyes played soft as a marshmallow early and looked lost. We missed countless point blank shots early. We can play well at times but our intensity has to get better, our movement without the ball has to get better. Your not going to get open standing around. Go Lady Vols

Watching replay of the highlights, several turnovers were set up because the ball was trapped and teammates just wouldn't move into an open passing lane.

One time in particular, the LV with the ball was double-teamed and pinned against the sideline, while her teammate, only 8 feet away, was standing with her arms out to receive the pass--directly in line with one of the double-teamers! The ball could only have gotten to her through the defender's body! Yet all she had to do to get open for the pass was move sideways another 3 feet!!!

I am convinced that many of our players--and I mean this diagnostically, not facetiously--would score low on a spatial reasoning assessment. I don't think we're too lazy to move, and I doubt that we're just reckless, and after all the coaches have said and done, I can't imagine it would be lack of focus.

Possibly supporting that hypothesis, at least half of the interceptions appeared to be caused by narrowly focused vision or lack of peripheral vision. Just a glancing scan should have shown the passer that a defender was in position to intercept. We made their freshman guard Woolley (great last name for an Aussie!) look like Walt Frazier!

I feel like we have a legitimate shot to get to the Sweet Sixteen. If we play our game, their is no reason we shouldn’t win.

I hope you're right, but there could be one reason Belmont could win: they are an outstanding team, relentlessly tough, and playing with supreme confidence. We could beat them. But we could also get beaten by 20.

Here's some advice, take it or leave it:

The best, most stress-free way to watch this team in this tournament this year is to let go of any expectations of them looking smooth or consistent on either end. If they just have enough good moments to eke out a 1-point win, let that be enough to make you happy. Nothing else matters at this point as long as they can string together enough decent moments to survive and advance.

Hopefully they will be a better, healthier team next season, but we are what we are right now, and no amount of complaining or incredulous verbal face-palming by us is going to change it. Hopefully we'll catch some lucky breaks here and there on Monday and get another win.

It helps to keep bringing your focus back to something positive while you watch. We managed to get it together and win. That'll just have to be good enough right now. Tennessee WON. They advanced! They'll have another opportunity Monday, and hopefully they'll survive and advance again. I'll take ANY KIND OF WIN.
Exactly the right approach at this point, and almost word for word what KJH told the team in the post game video. Kinda waved at "some things to fix" but bottom line, just find a way to score one more point than they do. Survive and advance.

Good as this advice is, damn is it hard to do, especially in person at the game. This is the most frustrating basketball team I've ever seen. I can't even start on Key, she is just beyond my ability to comprehend. It's the continued church league passes and lack of movement on offense that just floors me. The standing around often leads to the bad passes. Does not seem that hard to fix.

But it's not the time to reinvent the wheel right now, just find a dang way, which has been the strong point of this team this year. Hopefully an upgrade of talent and an intense offseason will help smooth out the wrinkles in our offense and in my forehead.

Good points.

I'm probably all wrong, but I feel good about this game. Every underdog has one game of their life in them, and Belmont just played theirs. I do think they're a very capable team, but I believe we can physically overmatch them.

One more thing about the game yesterday, to be Capt Obvious, the Buffalo #2 is a fine, fine player, definitely the best player on the floor by a wide margin.

Rae must just be ready to get on with her life bc I can't imagine she'll stick in the WNBA at this point. Good job by her to come back for a better second half, but she is still wildly inconsistent. And visibly frustrated.

Thank the lucky stars that Dye is a postseason beast. Has bounced back so nicely from a horrid late season stretch. I think she has a big game against Belmont.
