NCAAT Game Thread: Lady Vols vs Buffalo/Belmont

It's hilariously ironic I saw some other posters saying the only way UConn gets to the FInal Four is if the other team chokes, when Tennessee is only in the Sweet 16 because Belmont choked. Hard.

Does it not still count as a win? Should Kellie offer to give the W to Belmont?

I said that and I stand by it too. See I don’t have a one track mind like you do. A fully healthy UConn team could’ve easily loss yesterday in a 2nd Round game to UCF, a team Tennessee beat w/ out Rae Burrell. Tennessee advances to the Sweet 16 w/o their leading scorer but your one track mind ignores that fact.
Secondly, you talking about free throws. Man how many did Tennessee miss? Did Tennessee not have a 14 pt lead in the 2nd qtr?
If Tennessee loss the game would that not mean they choked instead of Belmont?
Only people that agree with your analysis are those who can’t accept the fact they’ve been wrong all year about this team. The Vols are dancing 🕺. Like it or not.

Teams that are stronger, work harder, have been in those types of situations during the season tend to be luckier. When they win, they are the better team. What was Belmonts strength of schedule in comparison to Tennessee and i doubt their league prepared like Tennessee's did.

Exactly. Like the old saying goes: Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

Wow. Louisville at 37th in SOS, 31 worse than Tennessee. Berry Interesting.
Our kryptonite with them is their three point shooting 37 percent as a team. If we could match them in three point shots made in the game Saturday I think we win the game. Our inability to make threes has been the reason for most of our losses in the second half of the season.

And we don't really defend the three well, either. I'd be happy to see our best perimeter defenders - Miles, Wynn, Walker, etc - get a lot of minutes vs Lvl. On offense, pound it in to Snoop and Key. It might be nice - for a change of pace and a tactical surprise - to full court press them.

Snoop was really bad leaving her man out there last night. I know she does it to get inside to rebound, but four of those threes were on her. That kick out to her man was the reason they were able to make that run. I'm just for pressuring the line and let Key take care of the inside.

Our big defensive bugaboo is not closing out on 3 pt shooters. Not sure why that's such an ongoing problem.

And 4 of those were on Snoop, who obviously more than made up for them. 5 t.o.s among the rest of the team for a full game? That was the first miracle.
I think it’s mental. One we lost under the Belmont basket Jo Jo wasn’t paying attention. It wasn’t laziness…..they just weren’t on top of it.

Rae lost a few to the basket too. She looked a little lethargic at times. I hope people remember these players are people and their bodies and emotions are part of the package. Back in classes — and we have a brainy bunch — stress of tournament. I’m proud of them.

Hmm, thats a real stretch. Dye could have actually looked at the person she was passing to and discovered 1) the player she was inbounding to was correctly sizing up the situation she'd be going into and not yet ready for the pass and 2) ole Tuti with the rolled up leg was right behind her, ready for the easy pick off. Dye scooped that ball up and flicked it inbounds like she was playing a pickup game. Was on autopilot. Got burned. But totally made up for it.

IMO Walker played very well these two games.
Communication is a two-way deal.

I love Jo Jo’s game and swag.

How do you call yourself a fan and don’t even know her name and then have the audacity to criticize her image? Yes your post is ignorant and has nothing to do with how she can perform. Just like anyone else Pat would’ve changed with the times…
Sorry Gilmore that response wasn’t intended for you 🤦🏾‍♂️

No - because I asked a sincere question of curiosity and was attacked personally for it.
Must be some real "mad at the world" people here with a giant Lady Vol chip on their shoulder.

I'm a Knoxville boy who grew up a Vols fan and have been very happy about all their success.
I also understand how hard it is to have once been the dominant program in the country and to now have to rebuild back to that level.
But this "hair trigger" anger at anyone who asks a question that is then interpreted as being critical of the current program is a bit over the top.

No, it’s the asking of a question regarding why someone would have long braids and eyelashes as though she hasn’t averaged 17/7.5 over the last two games that’s concerning. If you tangibly stated there is an issue with it such as the nails then yes I can understand but unless a defender is pulling at her braids, what would be the issue? It isn’t a street fight. Also, she has big beautiful brown eyes so her lashes are going to look bigger/long even if they’re the same size. Also, unless you put the eyelashes on you don’t know if their are single installs or the places with a bunch of glue or not. I’m sure considering where she’s from she’s not allowing any of this to be done to her and affect her negatively on the court. Culture matters and being comfortable with you at all times matters. She’s perfectly fine how she is. When you bring up the old days understand this is not those times and if you want girls who abide by old times we’ll be no better than BYU. Pat would’ve adjusted just like any other coach. She wasn’t a dictator. If you’re only a “Knoxville boy” try getting out a bit and learning/understanding others that aren’t from their and see how well they perform without being judged for how they decide to adorn themselves/their hair etc.

Pat only MISSED one s16 in her career. This team has met the bare minimum acceptable standard of this program for the first time in 6 years.
Women’s BB then versus Women’s BB now- different worlds. Parity, Pat helped bring that along.
If this is your big negative argument you are in trouble.
Noticed they said Kim Mulkey hadn’t had a sweet sixteen since 2014. Kellie has had two in the last four years. So who is the better coach?

The last time Mulkey DIDN’T make the sweet 16 prior to this year was 2008. Somebody had really wrong stats there.

Hmm, thanks for correcting. I wonder if they said the wrong thing or I misheard them? I’m going to check when she last went to the final four.
NTL, we’re in this year and she isn’t!!!!!! SEC has taken a drubbing😳

Two thoughts.
1) we are in the sweet sixteen without our best player and we have played well but not nearly up to our potential. Key has been tight at the beginning of the game. JW and Tess haven’t had great three point games yet. Our offensive flow has been okay but we can do much better. Snoop has been great period. Defense has been good, look at opponents percentages against us.
This next game could be the game where we put things together. We are due.
2) Kellie has a whole new toolbox available to her now that the freshmen are starting to contribute. There are plays/plans that she can put in place now that she couldn’t do even a month ago. We are much deeper now! Who wants to run their offense against Walker, Miles, Wynn and TK all in the game at the same time? Excited for a few new wrinkles next week!

No. No new wrinkles. I got plenty already.
