NCAAT thread Day 1

on a lighter note - you guys may remember St Joes from when the Vols played the tourney first 2 rounds in Birmingham.

That's when I learned the story of the St. Joe's mascot

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hawk_(Saint_Joseph%27s_University_mascot)

Can't find it anymore but there's a video of the hawk fighting another mascot and he's still flapping between punches. (it's not the one between the hawk and the Ram of Rhode Island)

Makes you question the seeding. You have teams from good mid major conferences that dominate and win their championship paired against teams that are the 4th or so team from their power conference.

Sure if you are a mid major that gets the auto bid but weren't dominant in conference you should get a crap seed but some of these teams won 27 games and can only play the teams they can play.

end rant

I wouldn't mind to see more of those 5-7 finishers of the power conferences have to be the teams put into the First Four games. Wichita State should have been a higher seed and Syracuse (for example) was lucky to get in. But there isn't an easy fix. Teams from power conferences are going to bring more viewership, even if they aren't great teams. Plus, you never hear head coaches from power conferences pleading the case of the little guy. It's always team, conference, head coach fraternity friends>>>>>>>>>>>>>>little guy.

WVU players have to have money on this game. Some of these turnovers are ridiculous.
WVU is not very good. The only reason they have so many many wins is because in inter-conference play it is very hard to prepare for their press in less than 5 days. That's why most WVU losses come on a Staurday because teams have 4-5 days to prepare. That's also why they did so well in the conference tournament (because teams didn't have enought time to acclimate). Also the Big 12 refs lets WVU mug people causing turnovers (see OU vs WVU Big 12 Conference Tournament Game)

Little trivia here, but St Joe's officially adopted Auburn as their football team about 20 years ago.
