Sounds like the American legal system is not much better than Russia's when it comes to fathers. I swear this is a wicked society we have when all it takes is an allegation with no evidence to have these goon cops swoop in and raid your home. Then of course, the judge giving the passports to her attorney? Comical...
Seems to me like he has just as much beef with the courts here in America.
Not as much beef. I agree though - there are some things going on in America that the founders tried to prevent. 4th amendment, search and siezure etc. Right to a speedy trial (those being held in Washington jails for the Jan 6 thing).
HOWEVER... I have been helping David's sister Carol who is working with David's attorney Gleb over there in Russia. Trust me, Russia is much much worse and a nightmare. David's attorney couldn't get to see him for the first 6 weeks, and in that period, he had no idea who even knew if he was in jail. He was moved from Detention center 7 to Detention center 5, and on the day he was supposed to meet with the attorney, so that didn't happen ( that was a couple of months ago). He's looking at a 12 year sentence if convicted and the acquittal rate in Russia is less than 3%.
The prosecution keeps asking for original documents from the Houston trial, and they have provided those with the court seal on them, but apparently that's not good enough . They keep asking for the same things they have provided, and of course everything has to be translated into the Russian language. The sanctions are also a huge roadblock in getting anything to David. It looks like they will convict him when his trial comes up in a few months. Also it looks like his only hope is a diplomatic prisoner exchange of some sorts.
He is in a cell with 7 others and 4 bunk beds for 23 hours a day. There is a TV in there, that (in David's description) plays Russian songs (like a radio?) and it plays the same songs over and over. He asked for earplugs and had to make his own. Dogs are barking non stop and his cellmates hate him because he is American. If he so much as leaves a hair in the sink, he is chastised by the other 7. It took 4 months to get a English Bible to him.
I can tell you in no uncertain terms that it's much better to be incrassated in America.
However you are right. He does have a huge beef with the courts here. The guy that let those passports fall back into the hands of the mother in Houston. Thinl about the effect. 2 children kidnapped and a father in a Russian jail facing an 8-12 year sentence. He needs to be disbarred and do time.
