Need A New Direction

You people calling for her ouster, are delusional. Fulmer knows that it would look entirely foolish, to fire a coach whom took her team to the Big Dance. Back away from the ledge!

Yep.....got to the dance, lost the dance card and went home alone........:thud:

That was a remarkably balanced take on the situation.

What I don't get is that this was a better team and season than last year, but he says "With Warlick's teams seeming to drift further from a return to the Final Four rather than drawing closer, Fulmer's decision seems clear." It's that kind of disconnect that makes me shake my head. If you want to say it's not coming fast enough, that's one thing. But getting further away? That's an agenda.

Her last recruiting class was ..... Harris

Since.... 2017.....#1
2018.....#3

You can bring in the world but if you can`t develop that talent then you are a bad coach. Harris was sign because we no post player at the time and a limited roster. Make no mistake Kyra Elzy would be a much better coach the Holly. and lets be clear Elzy left because she disagree with the way Holly was coaching the team. It was a train wreck waiting to happen and guest what Holly wreck the train.

To anyone who needs an intervention before the horror of the season just past drives you madness, check out a guy on youtube named Josh Turner Guitar and listen to him and his friends for half a day.

Best thing I've done in years. And I feel happy! lol His Franki Vallee cover was awesome.

Ok so it's been 4 hours and I have some words, not many but some as it relates to our #ladyvols.

I was a player, so was Abby and Pashen and Tamika and Semeka and Chamique and Candace and Dawn and Shelley and Lisa and Pam and and and......

And I'm sorry but you just can't blame this on the coach. Players play. Players make plays. Players win games. Players make free throws or they don't. Players are on the court. Players are in control. Players contest shots. Players get defensive stops. Players make or cause turnovers. Players take charges or punk out and don't sacrifice their bodies to do so. Players hit chippies or they don't. Players dive after loose balls or they choose not to. Players are taught by their leaders, their coaches and I cannot stress enough the experience of this staff who is coaching these kids....is beyond what any other program can ask for. The grass is NOT greener on the other side folks. Players need to mature. Players need to value winning. Players need to feel the pain. So the next time when pain is looming, it feels different and therefore they will get a different outcome. I really don't care if some fans don't agree with what I am saying but we have great players and great players need to step up as they always have in the TN program. Onus is on the players. I will remind everyone that in 1996, we were 5 years without a Championship and Pat was as stressed as anyone EVER. She put the blame ON US to win. Mark my word, it was ours to win or not. So please before you throw a baby out with the bathwater in blaming Holly, just remember it's a journey, not a sprint. In today's Me first, Video game reset world, everyone wants to get rid of the coach and think it will make it all right. Not so people. Holly is a Pat's protege. She's got her blue print mapped in her body, soul and mind. You won't get any better, any closer to Pat than Holly. I'd like everyone to think about this post as we tend not to blame the players only the coaches. Trust me, Pat blamed us and held us responsible. Time for the players to own up. Whether anyone likes to read this or not, it's true and you can't argue it because I have been there and done that. 18 to 21 year olds are adults.

I get what your saying, and some of the problems do lie with the players, but Holly simply does not pass the eye test when coaching during games, and her press conferences.....where do we start. It doesn't appear the players are motivated or pushed to excellence and attention to detail. We heard similar things from Butch about how this rebuild needs more time. Only problem with that is not seeing gradual improvement. When stagnation sets in or bad years start to repeat, we have a problem.

You've made this claim several times lately. I've never heard it from anywhere else, but I also never heard any reason for the parting. Do you have some proof to support it?

It was all over social media and internet when she left. This isn't new news.

Curious if any coaches on the board can tell us common ways of beating a zone compared to how the Lady Vols attack a zone.

Many zone offenses incorporate spreading the floor and bringing the post to the free throw line, where her height allows her to survey the court for any cuts or wide open players.

Coaches must have offensive systems they can run against man or zone defenses.

By the end of the season, players should know the sets they need to run. Offenses should start to gel. Defenses click.

For us, it was the opposite. We started strong then as the season progressed, players looked more confused on court. Miscues increased. The players often seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It’s concerning.

It’s been six years under Holly and our team still looks like a deer in headlights when they see a zone. It’s mind boggling.

And we’ve welcomed new assistants during that time frame. Holly’s original staff included Jolette Law, Dean Lockwood and Kyra Elzy. Kyra left the team in 2016 and returned to Kentucky. We replaced her with Sharrona Reaves, who was billed as a recruiting whiz who has NOT failed to impress. Last year, Jollete left for USC and we replaced her with Lady Vol legend Bridgette Gordon.

All these coaches have tons of experience and you mean to tell me none of them know how to beat a zone or get a post player touches?

I’m sure even returning players who attend practice know how to beat a zone, too.

This is all just hard to comprehend.

We know freshmen take time, but we brought in the No. 1 recruiting class and all were McDonald’s All-Americans. And several freshmen across the nation have settled in nicely and improved as the season went on. Rennia Davis has improved tremendously and is solid, but both of our freshmen guards have struggled with turnovers and shooting woes. Kasi hasn’t seen much time and likely needs a summer of conditioning.

The guard play has been particularly frustrating because we’ve really struggled from that position (lack of scoring, turnovers) for several seasons. College basketball is about the guards, especially in tournament play.

We just can’t seem to get the best out of the majority of our players. Our players don’t look comfortable or confident executing our offense.

I really wish some reporters would press Holly on the basketball stuff, i.e. Why does the Vol offense struggle in nearly every game vs zone defenses?

What are good ways to beat a zone and why do you think your players seem to struggle each year with that? What have you done to fix it?

Why do players keep saying they let offense affect their defense after nearly every loss? What have you done to curb that? Do you remind them not to let that happen during games?

Why has the team struggled with turnovers all year? What have you done to limit that?

Why has the team failed to get Russell touches? What have you done to correct it?

These are fair questions.

The talent is there. We all see it. But our teams often appear unprepared and despondent on court. Our players lack that intuition the good teams have of knowing where the other will be on the court.

Whatever we’re doing now isn’t working. I want to know how the head coach plans to fix it???

The current coaches don't know how to fix it, so we're going to keep seeing the same thing.

I'm with you on this one coach.
Have the expectations been diminished to the point where being one of 64 teams to make the NCAA playoff's is an accomplishment ?
If that's true, the war is already lost.

This is exactly what many long-time supporters (40 years) are doing. Just lowering expectations, declining to drive 100 miles to watch games, not bothering to make any special effort to catch tv games. When Warlick says she doesn't care about losing, why should fans?

If we can occasionally be ranked and make the NIT, that's good enough.

I do think Warlick's next contract could be reduced be several hundred thousand. $200K sounds sufficient.

Don`t need proof just my opinion and i will stand by it. Right now this team needs a fresh start and it should not be with Holly as the head coach.
