Ok bear with me here and Mods feel free to move this from the Football forum if you'd like.

I am planning a trip to Knoxville this year for my first Tennessee football game along with my father, grandfather, and my two Uncles. I know it's early but I want to start planning because time flys and it will be here before you know it.

We will all be coming from South Jersey and to be honest this may be the 1st and last time we can all go together as 3 generations of Vols fans. My pop isn't getting any younger and My father is a Diabetic, and one of my Uncles has a rare eye disease that has left him blind in one eye and soon to be completely blind, so you never know what life has in store for them or any of us.

So my question to you all is really just asking for your advice. Like A good section to sit at so my uncle won't have a lot of trouble seeing the field, good places to eat, or maybe even play golf. Anything that is a must see while were down there? Just any advice that would make this a great trip for all of us. We have all been to East TN many times but never to Knoxville to watch a game so any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

what game ?

Not sure what game I want to go to yet. I wanted to go to Florida last year but didn't get it together in time. It will have to be UGA, Auburn, USC, or Vandy because I want to go to a SEC game. I don't want to make the trip for Western Kentucky or Austin Peay.

As far as tickets and seating go, contact the UTAD and they will help you. The sooner the better. I'd also start making reservations to a hotel close to the stadium.

Thanks. When do tickets for home games start to go on sale? I've been wanting to go to a game so bad for so long but I've been in debt. Now I finally worked my way out and I just don't want to wait and have the tickets be sold out for the game I want to go to.

I was thinking Auburn on November 9th. That's the week of my father's birthday and plus we have a good shot at winning that game.

I went to the bama game and sat on about the 35yd line in row 19 and it was PERFECT. If you're too low the curvature of the field (rainwater sloping) can keep you from seeing the far side, if you're too high well why not just watch it on your big screen hd tv right?

Just my two cents.

Here's my 2 cents, and I'm nearly 50...I'd try to go to the UGA game. It's the first week of October so the weather will most likely be perfect. At worst we'll have one SEC loss, so we'll still "be in it" AND it's really the first chance of the season for the stadium to be at full capacity and it will be rockin'! The tailgate will be in full force and the Vol Navy will be out in mass.

I'd try to get seats under cover if rain might be an issue for you or yours. Sounds like splurging for a parking pass might be a good idea too. If not a parking pass, park at the Ag. campus and take the shuttle...I don't get around so well anymore and splurged for a parking pass for the first time last year. Worth it, walking back to 12th street was ruining my experience lol, that's what I get for being cheap, I guess.

As mentioned, Calhouns is a fun and convenient spot pre/post game, but there are tons of restraunts... I'll mention Litton's.

Good Luck hope ya'll have a great time. GBO!

Oh, and Ole College Inn will be reopened by then as well, original menu or so they say.

Thank you for the advice. I do want to go to a SEC East game against one of the rivals. You never know how the season is going to go so if I wait around till Vandy then we might be going to a uninteresting game. I have heard Calhouns is a good spot to eat, from looking around on these boards and when I used to go to the GoVolsxtra site, it's been mentioned a lot. I haven't talked to my family yet so maybe they would want to see a certain game. I kind of wanted to surprise them tho.

If you're wanting to make a weekend of it and play some golf too, I would choose a warm weather game and not sure if you're wanting to stay in Knoxville, if so then disregard the link below. Its a pretty nice resort and the golf course isnt bad. Traffic leaving Pigeon Forge on a Saturday isnt bad so you're looking at about a 30-45 minute drive to Neyland. Park at Calhouns. Its right by Neyland and on the river and its a good gameday atmosphere. Hope this helped.

If you don't eat at Chandler's it is a sin. Nothing fancy about it, I suggest going for lunch, but it has some of the best soul/southern food I've ever had. Really friendly people too! If your from Jersey then I'm sure you don't have an abundance of this type of food around. If your feeling bold, try the chitterlings, don't ask what they are until after you try them....lol

I would also say Calhouns on the River for a pregame meal considering that you're out-of-towners and might not want to venture too far away. (Plus it's just damn good!) I would also maybe consider the Georgia game for the mere fact that there's a better chance of not ROASTING to death at Neyland. September in Tennessee is nothing like September in Jersey!

Try to make the Vol Walk if you can...it's worth it.

Either way I hope you and your whole family have a great time! :salute:
