I know you will come up with something that wasn't to your liking, and put your "special" little spin on an otherwise GREAT DAY. You have been spewing for nine months (many of you longer), so tell us homers, what was it today? A game a season does not make, but why don't you just bite your lip and say this was a great game and remember a time when you just loved watching, win or lose, this team with the double orange strips on the pants. Deal?

They did great!!! 38-18 and only reason CALl scored more and we socred less was getting 2nd string in game. Love it!!

I imagine "Well, Cal is overrated" will be the popular spin of choice.

That was the best game UT has played in years, and the best game Ainge has ever played at UT.

Truly, I don't even remember the last time we dominated a top 10 team like that...

2 of Ainge's touchdowns were the work of Meachem. They were 5 yard out/curl patterns and Meachem did the rest. Ainge threw a bad ball to an open Lucas Taylor. I dont really care about the INT. If Taylor hadn't tipped it, it wouldn't have been intercepted.

The things I did like about Ainge is that he didnt try and do too much. Cutcliffe had Ainge working very efficiently. He threw a perfect ball to Swain even tho he was pretty much wide open.

I want to see Ainge against a good secondary before I'm totally sold on him.

Dead on. It was absolutely amazing, the difference in the way the offense looked. We were sure, crisp, and focused. No delays. Really only a couple of penalties. A couple of drops that the receivers should have had, and that could have been very big if Cal was a better football team and the game was close. But, the routes looked good, they were going after the ball, and they were fighting for YACs. Ainge was poised and always looked like he knew what to do. Foster and Coker got some hard-fought yardage against what is (don't fool yourself) a very good defense up front.

All in all, about as good as I ever remember looking on offense. And, let's not leave out the D. Cheif earned his keep, today, folks. Having to rebuild the front 7 and to shut down a top-notch back like that? Wow.

I know there was a lot of anxiety before the game, so now there should be an equal amount of excitement after the game. Anybody ready for this year, now?

GO VOLS.

Another thing, we didn't use a timeout until the second half (was it the 3rd or 4th quarter?) Anyway, our Vols executed tonight and it payed off big time!

Dude? That's why it's a team game. The wide receivers get open and the qb's deliver well-thrown balls to them. Then everybody is happy. I think you can check off both points tonight.

Which is especially good because it's been since January 2005 since that's happened.

Where are Vol423 and Dr RosenRosen?

I think Vol423 said this team had no talent and pretty much dissed Meachem and Swain completely.

Ainge did a great job... I thought he was a question mark but he played extremely well.

As for the hitch passes, those were great checks and very good passes. That isn't just a simple play. He put Meachem in a position to catch the ball and make a play. Teams, especially UGA and LSU, now know they can't load up against the run. This will help the running game from now on.

I have no problem whatsoever taking ownership for the statements that I've made, but I have NEVER said that this team has no talent. What I have said is that no matter how talented our players may be, that talent hasn't been showing up on the field in games. That changed in a big way today. The Vols played a complete game today up until the point that the starters were pulled out in the third quarter. They executed well in every phase of the game, and we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot with stupid mistakes and penalties. The offensive playcalling was excellent and kept Cal's defense off balance. I felt that we should have left the starters in longer, but it was good to get the other players some game experience. There is no way to possibly spin this game as a negative. This was a fantastic effort.

This team showed more discipline today than I have seen UT show in a long, long time. Cutcliffe certainly seems to have made a major impact in that area. I hope they sustain that level of discipline throughout the rest of the season.

I give props to the OL. In my opinion the most important part of a football team is the OL, and they surprised me. Foster didn't have a great game, but he was always falling forward for at least 2 or 3 yards, and the Cal backs sure can't say that. The OL also gave EA plenty of time to throw and that is just what we need.I guess the Cal backs and receivers know what the inside of their helmets look like now. Did you guys notice how the Cal player who was trailing Meach just gave up at about the 40 on that 80 yard TD.
