From Chad Ford of ESPN:

Nerlens Noel, F/C, Kentucky Wildcats
Noel showed up at the adidas Nations camp last weekend and, by virtually every account, was a major disappointment. While longtime high school gurus knew that Noel was incredibly raw, NBA scouts got a pretty big taste of just how raw he was. Offensively, Noel struggled to do anything other than dunk the ball. Defensively he showed why he was a terrific shot-blocker, but did little else to impress.

Now in order to avoid getting this dumped in the "Around the NCAA" forum I am going to ask who'd you rather, Stokes or Noel?

Stokes.

I've said since he committed he won't live up to expectations. So many UK fans said hell be equal to Davis, that is down right the dumbest thing that anyone could say. This kid will block shots, but not nearly as many as Davis. His offense will be nowhere near Davis', and he will be in foul trouble pretty frequently.

Will he be a good freshman C, yea. However, I don't expect all American or 1st team all sec honors for the man.

Noel will likely be a good player - but stokes is a favorite for POY in the SEC and has the potential to be an all-american - kind of a tough comparison for Noel

Stocks rising and falling this summer - ESPN

Last year Anthony Davis showed up at the LeBron James Skills Academy and virtually every scout in attendance claimed he was the best prospect there. I couldn't find anyone who was willing to say the same about Noel.

"He's got the raw abilities, but he doesn't have any of the intangibles of Anthony Davis," one scout said. "I think he's going to get better and [UK coach John Calipari] will help him a lot. But I told my GM to temper his expectations. We're probably going to see a season closer to Andre Drummond's than Anthony Davis."

Noel began the season in late June ranked No. 1 on our Big Board. A lot of NBA scouts are now questioning whether he really belongs there. On the other hand, if Noel isn't No. 1, then who is? No one had a clear favorite to replace him.

TY! they all told me how he was going to be a better defensive player than Davis and there would be no drop-off - I found that hard to believe but nice to see some outside affirmation of that

They're in for a MAJOR dissapointment.

Like I said hell block shots, but not at the level Davis did. And the most impressive thing to me with Davis was being able to blk that many shots while avoiding foul trouble. Noel couldn't even avoid foul trouble in the Jordan game, he leaves his feet WAYYYY too often.

I see Noel being a 8ppg 8rpg 2bpg type of guy, like the analyst said, Andre Drummond like numbers.

Noel's biggest problem is he's not Anthony Davis, won't become Anthony Davis, yet they need him to be Anthony Davis.

My point exactly. Davis is an every now and then player. You don't see players like Davis often and this kid will be no where near Davis' abilities.

Isaiah Austin was more impressive. He needs to put on weight (hopefully for him 10 pds before Nov. 15) but he is much closer to a Davis clone.

Noel may not be much, if any, drop-off from Davis on the defensive end, but he'll be a huge liability on the offensive end.

Also, Noel dominated both Stokes and Shaq Goodwin in the Peach Jam a year ago, if I recall correctly. That was a year ago, though.

Stokes, and we will beat Kentucky two times this year (three times if we face them in the SEC tourny) You will see. :hi:

So you think Noel=Davis impact on the defensive end? C'mon MC, you're smarter than that. We wont see as dominate a C on the defensive end for a long time.

Exactly a year plus ago. I like stokes chances against him this season.

I've seen Noel play. He's a better shot blocker than Davis at this point in their careers. He's not nearly as well-rounded a player, but his wingspan and timing on the defensive end make him really dangerous. His team won't be nearly as good as Davis', so Noel will probably pick up more silly fouls b/c of perimeter defenders not stopping their men, so he may not break Davis' record. But he's an amazing shot blocker.
