He can't be serious
No kidding.
He could maybe argue that the SEC's exposure helps get them the champion bid when it's a toss up between teams with the same record but it always seems to be the right choice and ESPN isn't winning those games for them.
Alabama, Florida and LSU have all won championships with a loss on their resume but the point is, they won. Thus it's hard to argue they weren't deserving of being there. Florida with their one loss beat undefeated Ohio State. Alabama with their one loss beat undefeated LSU. LSU with their two losses beat one loss Ohio State. Some teams only have themselves to blame. Like Oklahoma State for instance, they lost to 6-7 Iowa State. All they had to do was win that game. Stanford's only loss was to a good Oregon team. If not Alabama, they would have been the only other team worthy imo. They didn't even win their division either though. Oklahoma State's loss was just bad. Boise State and Houston were the only other one loss teams but if you can't go undefeated in MWC or CUA, you don't deserve to go over teams with same record from the SEC, Pac 12 and Big 12.
The SEC winning every championship game they're placed in speaks for itself. If he wants to argue that ESPN hyping the conference is the reason SEC teams get the bid, whatever. It obviously ends up being the right though given they always win. It's not like the SEC always gets the benefit of the doubt either. At least one time they weren't when Auburn went undefeated. Their schedule wasn't very good but they only gave up 9.6 points a game throughout the regular season giving up more than 14 points only one time in those 11 games. They gave up 28 points to Tennessee in the SEC championship(only gave up 10 to them during the season) and 13 points to VT in their bowl game. Really, their only good wins during the regular season were 10-3 Tennessee(twice), 10-2 Georgia and 9-3 LSU. Giving up 9.6 points per game is not an easy feat though and on top of that really good defense, they had Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown and Jason Cambpell on offense.
So, the SEC doesn't always get the benefit of the doubt for championship bids but even if they do, they make the most of it. Pretty stupid for Neuheisel to make that comment when the SEC is basically 8-0 in the championship. The only loss came at the hands of another SEC team so that doesn't really count.
