As a UT fan, I will NEVER AGAIN take the good years for granted! I remember back under Fulmer, I used to complain about 8 or 9 win seasons and going to a bowl. I used to gripe about not only thinking we weren't winning enough but we weren't winning by wide enough margins. How foolish I was! After spending the last 6 years wandering around in the wilderness, I have come to the conclusion that we should appreciate the good times more! While we didn't win the SEC and National Championship every year, we had a winning program with sustained success! When CBJ finally gets us on that path again, NEVER will I take that for granted! I will enjoy and appreciate it every step of the way!

Its hard for me to remember when we were really good. Im only 19 years old and I was like 12 the last time we beat a ranked team. I was raised the right way and will be a vol fan through thick and thin. GO VOLS

My problem with Fulmer is that he would treat the bowl games like vacations and never took them seriously. His bowl record can point to that. Those back to back Peach Bowls were painful.

Agree.

I am already appreciating the success we are having. Could have beat UG, did beat the old ball coach, team is buying in big time, and recruiting is looking up.

LOL- I took a few moments and went over to "cocky talk" (I feel dirty just typing that, sounds like I went to a porn site) and was a bit surprised at how much complaining there was about only winning 9 games etc... I couldn't help but think to myself that they will be sorry they feel this way in a few years after Spurrier is gone. Maybe they can get Sparky Woods back haha!!!

I like that you used the word "When" and not "if".

Obviously, you get it.

Hindsight is 20-20, I wanted fuller to stay as well. It's kinda like getting fired from it dram job, it's gonna take a while to get over it. No matter how bad u want to admit nothing is wrong...u worked at Burger King for a bit, u we're used to great paychecks. Then u were CEO of a large business... U got fired for watching ur stocks and staring in the mirror Too much.

Fulmer knew the difference in the Outback Bowl and a BCS bowl. He let the players enjoy a reward for a good season and helped them enjoy the rewards for great seasons.

I didn't mind Fulmer getting fired. His last few years were bad. I blame Hamilton ( he hired Kiffin and Dooley) more for getting us in this mess. If he hired a good coach like Butch Jones we could be going after a National Championship now. If you remember right Kiffin ran off Taj Boyd.

UT lost it's compass....and as a result the program did some wandering around the wilderness.

Feels good today to see the energy and excitement back in this program....the rise to the top is going to happen quickly....bowling looks likely this year, and next year should be quite the deal.

Everyone here sees what Kiffin did at USC and automatically think the results would be the same here, if not worse because we play in the SEC. Kiffin is an a** no doubt, but he had things here he didn't at USC. For one, Chaney ran the offense here, where Kiffin called all the shots at USC. That lead to Kiffin being a horrible game manager at USC. Second, Kiffin had 30 scholarships revoked from him at USC, and we didn't have any but probably would have lost some due to Kiffin's arrogance and unwillingness to play by the rules. Kiffin is the best offense mind we have had here besides Cutcliffe in the last 20 years. The guy knows how to develop talent at QB, and he knows how to call an offensive game when he doesn't have to be a head coach at the same time. Kiffin's reluctance to fire his dad cost him at USC, along with the reluctance to give up the offensive play calling. Kiffin is still a very good OC in college football, but his arrogance cost him in the end. Unfortunately, UT had to be part of the learning experience for Kiffin, but down inside I think Kiffin truly knows what a wonderful gig he had going here. Even if 3 years down the road Kiffin didn't work out here, we probably would have been roster wise in better shape then we were when CBJ took over this year. To win games like yesterday speaks volumes to CBJ's coaching abilities, but I also try to be objective with our past coaches like Kiffin. I don't like Kiffin as a person, but I do think he has a place in college football as a OC.

That's what bad times are for, to make you appreciate the good times and make you stronger. I, for one, feel like I know a little better now what a really good coach is supposed to act like. Don't you feel like you have learned a lot over the last few years? I've been watching since 1970, 43 years, and I've witnessed great success and great frustration, so let's enjoy today and look forward to tomorrow and realize we may have found our coach for the next 25 years and it didn't take us as long to do that as
Bama (for example)

And if I remember right, Fulmer, recruited Boyd. He could no longer recruit, game had passed him by, etc.

No, Fulmer was like a kid pouting! If he complained about something and others agreed he would not coach up the team un bowls. Orange-complained about Manning not getting Heisman. Peaches-complained about not getting "New Years day bowl" and not getting a "BCS" bowl. I never will forget his whinning "We deserve... . " Remember though, after he blew another chance at a NC with the fiasco against LSU he did coach up for that bowl because no one in Vol Nation was happy!

Dude, I don't think 7 or 8 & 5 seasons every 3/4 years with 5 win seasins inbetween is what Tennessee football is all about. Everyone knew that is where TN football was under Fulmer and knew as long as he was here it wouldn't get any better!

The same people who still feel the need to kick Phillip Fulmer are the same ones who will turn on whoever is coaching with success but doesn't get the Championship every year again. The best way to enjoy those times and not take them for granted is to ignore those people, and stop giving negavols credability. Even Neyland and Bear had A-hole critics, and as soon as Saban goes a couple of seasons without a SEC title you'll see those types at BAMA too.....when you get a good coach you got to stick by them. F the negavols and their ilk. People without loyalty are people without integrity.
