You can destroy a young QB by playing him before he's ready. We will take the lumps this year and hope that we don't see Worley get knocked out of a game. And that Peterman get back in three weeks.

But we likely not going to see a freshman QB this year.

They are not ready.

And never start a guy named Worely.

In all seriousness, right now isn't the time to throw them out there. Let Worley reprise the role of Matt Simms.

Heck, Matt Simms is one more Geno Smith turnover away from starting in the NFL.

Which is honestly a bush league move. If a freshman is good enough to start against Mizzou, Auburn, Vandy, and Kentucky, he's good enough to start against UGA, Bama, and USC. If not, then Worley earns/earned the right to start against the easier competition.

any freshman QB that can't handle S. Alabama doesn't have what it takes to be a successful SEC QB. Period.

Totally disagree. What's our plan if Worley goes down in the Georgia game? We have two good freshman QBs on the bench. One should have played in the South Alabama game in preparation for back up in the tough October schedule should our starter get hurt. We're taking a big risk. I only hope Worley learned a few things from South Alabama's Metheny - what a gutsy performance from the Jaguars signal caller.

All above observations are logically sound. I just hate to see one of the kids get his first collegiate snap because of an injury to Worley during one of the next three games. Talk about affecting his confidence: we are getting absolutely pulverized by AL, and he gets thrown out there to be pounded.

You don't know if you have two good freshman qb's on the bench. People assume they are good. How do we know they are good?

How good can they be right now if he was willing to give peterman a shot?

They will play Gino until he gets hurt.

There was never a time to insert either freshman in the USA game.

Manning playing as a freshman did nothing. At the time he went into the game he was 4th string behind Stewart. He would have probably been redshirted who knows...Hinton hurt Helton was awful Stewart did well and so did Manning.

The name but most importantly his off field work ethnic is what earned him the job as a starter by game 4.

Add to this that we had Dave Cutcliff prepping him, who was the best QB couch in the nation. Had he been here Eli would have been a Vol.

This website churns out ridiculous statements at an alarming rate. And this is one of the most ridiculous. Our fanbase makes me more and more embarrassed every day.

Ore qb and johnny football weren't ready to jump in as freshmen and redshirted, yet we think ours should be able to jump in and lead a program when every position is trying to learn? With a new system, new checks, new reads, and freshmen wr's all over the place.
What true freshmen qb's for bama, ga, Fla, Lsu, etc have started and made an impact over the last decade?

Matt Simms does hold a clipboard like a champ. Worley could learn a few things from him.

True, look what it did for Peyton Manning.

I doubt that Fergie or Dobbs are Peyton Manning. Peyton had a great defense to bail him out when he made mistakes, we don't this year. Peyton had a very good team around him, we don't.

Losing to SA was not an option and the coaches who know these QBs best determined they didn't want to risk playing the freshmen.

I've always thought the best Erik Ainge ever played at UT was as a freshman in '04. If he doesn't go down on the last play of the 1st half against Notre Dame we go 11-2 that year. Brent Schaeffer also played well. Also, if we had started freshman Casey Clausen instead of Suggs in the 2000 Georgia game we probably would have won.

The better question is how can they be worse than Worley?

hmmmm

I almost guarantee that Worley does not start the USCjr game. He is pathetic!! I wish him the best because he is a great kid. He does not have the arm strength nor the mobility to be an SEC qb. I will be decked out in orange (no gray in the closet) this Sat. in sec O screaming for the Vols. I DO NOT boo my team.

I wish Butch would have gotten one of the freshman some playing time in the usa game.

I think it'd be a mistake to forego Worley as the starter for a true freshmen, but I would like to see the freshman who is further along in his development (supposedly Ferguson, at the moment) be able to get a bit of work in.

I think one of them needs to see the field a bit to get some experience in case something happens to Worley, and so we'll know hat we've got in him.

Of course, the problem with that is that there's not much chance we get up on any of our remaining opponents enough for a freshman to see mop up duty with Worley as our QB. It's a catch 22.

Of course, there's always the chance that one of them sees mop duty in a blowout a la Oregon in the next 3 weeks.
