New 2017 Rankings Out

I don't know why people would be excited about this ranking, especially this early. The only reason we are 5th is because we have 18 commitments. The avg ranking at this point is nothing to brag about.

this our average rating is like 2.9 which is low.Recruiting rankings are all about the top 25 in your class on most sites so early on the schools with the most people signed will be ranked higher because of point totals. As soon as some of the guys iwth more 4 and 5 stars start filling their classes they will start climbing.

that being said I am not worried we will grab some big names near the end and end up in the top 10 overall.

Average star rating has us closer to 25th than 5th in reality. Of course Gibbs, Higgins, Chandler will boost that average if they jump in. Reality is it looks like a few more 3* are very much still in play.

Honestly, we're only that high just because we have like 7 more commitments than everyone else (ours are all 3 stars). Hope some do get bumped or we'll fall a lot when other schools catch up.

Always love the eventual bump up in rating talk. You would think after all these years folks would learn that ratings do not change much if at all.

The few times they change are after the initial ratings, after summer camps if kids actually attended the big sites camps. The only other time there are big changes are end of year during all star games.

So unless the 3*s we have attend any site camps which most are over now if not all, or make it to an all star game and show out, they have very little chance to bump up now.

Fant is likely the only one who will see a bump if he has a monster year coming off injury.

Yay.
Another thread filled with comments on how our class isn't really good and won't look any better. It's like a tiny miracle.
Most importantly, no matter how many times it's already been said in a thread, it doesn't discourage the next little ray of sunshine from pointing it out again. Most people would show that horse's corpse some mercy, but not our little group of go getters.
Kudos guys.

Unfortunately we are around number 40 on Avg ranking, only high at this point due to the number of commits. Need to add big names this fall!

October, it's gonna happen.

Ala. has had the top recruiting class 38 years in a row! They have great coaches. They have better players than us in just about every position, give or take 1 or 2.

Just don't know how we beat them when the deck is stacked like this.

That said, anything can happen but I will not bet on this game.:p:p:p:p

Well there is the whole, we only lost by 5 pts to them on their home field last season.....and we return 17 of our 22 starters this year, while Alabama is only returning 11 argument.

Getting 9 commitments within 2 - 3 days is great, but not so great when everyone of them is a 3*. I think we've taken way too many 3*'s, especially this early. Don't forget that our two highest rated classes were full of legacy players who were very highly rated.

I just don't want this to be an ongoing trend, or we will slip back down to the middle of the pack within the SEC. 15 3*'s of our 18 is not great recruiting. Coach Jones will find out pretty quickly that continuing in this direction will not end well. I really like him as our coach, and hope he will reverse this trend.

There is also the whole most teams outside of maybe the top 25 would start their third string. trust me those guys have talent stacked on top of talent. Alabama is probably the easiest recruiting Job in the nation for the past 10 years. Even at their worst they just have to offer and had a 50/50 chance getting a kid. Its a household name and its almost always been that way even in their down years. The only thing going against them in recruiting is playing time. They rarely have holes in the 2 deep maybe room for improvement but not holes.

Until they get knocked off the throne and another team builds up like Saban did that won't happen anywhere else. There are only about maybe 10 schools nationwide that could pull off what Bama has done this century recruiting wise but they can only do it by winning a few natty's. UT is one of those schools since we went Nike. We actually have all the same pluses Bama has except for instate talent pool. We can fix a lot of things and in-state talent is on the rise but unless there is some huge change in demographics its not gonna happen. Tennessee has a bigger population than Alabama 50% more but its spread out over much more area. And most of the talent is in west and middle TN. Alabama, much like Georgia and Florida, has all its talent concentrated in one central area which naturally raises the level of competition.

How is it a trend 6 months before signing day? How is this an ongoing trend?

Per Rivals.com

https://n.rivals.com/team_rankings/2017

Tennessee is now ranked #5 for the 2017 class. I think a lot of the 3* kids will wind up 4* stars in the fall. I trust this staff on talent observations so not worried about that aspect.

Keep reeling them in CBJ!

:loco:

Tennesseeduke

This class doesn't even average a 3 star per prospect. I think it easily finishes in the top 10, but a lot of these players are going to be processed.

Did Bama get someone who can fill in for Cam Robinson when he goes to prison? Oh wait, he plays for Bama and has immunity. He could shoot someone during a game and they'd find a way to get him on the field by the Third Saturday in October.

Your son is a real bastard, Roose.
