I said it elsewhere, but I'll say it again here. A year ago, heck maybe even a few months ago, I would have scoffed at the idea of Fulmer as AD. But, there is no way he could do a worse job than Hamilton or Hart. And at least we know he'd do his utmost for the university.

The jury is still out on Hart…as for Pat Summit…nothing but love and respect for the woman, but do you really want to put someone who has dementia early onset Alzheimer’s as AD!?!?:blink:

Yes, I'm sure there will be a lot of furrowed brows at Andy Holt over this.

It's not just anonymous posters on message boards. Hart has made a lot of enemies. Can they get him fired? Who knows. Can they withdraw support and stop giving money that UT needs and is counting on? Absolutely.

No doubt. But don't pretend that anonymously "signing" a "petition" on a message board has anything to do with that. This is sheer onanism.

No, these are two separate things. But I do think people have a right to express their dissatisfaction as long as they're civil about it. IDK anything about this petition, but they're not usually anonymous-- you generally have to give your name and contact info, then when a certain # of e-sigs are attached, it is sent by a third party to the intended recipient. That's a fair and reasonable way to have your voice heard, IMO.

You wont have to worry about the petition because the local media is absolutely killing hart and cheek, along with a few others. It will calm a bit to welcome the new coach and present a united front, but heads will roll. Unless you've been away for the last 2 weeks, you have seen the embarrassment that was brought on this university at a time when we had to do if right. All jobs have expectations and consequences.

I'm not sure how to put this, but this is not embarrassment.

Embarrassment is Notre Dame firing George O'Leary for falsifying his resume.
Embarrassment is Alabama firing Mike Price before he ever coached a game.
Embarrassment is what happened at Penn State.

We hired a man who is widely considered -- outside the confines of the bat**** fringe of our fanbase, anyway -- to be a very competent football coach. There's nothing embarrassing about that.

I would expect Hart to be fired over this, eventually-- not because he hired Butch Jones specifically, but because he single-handedly bungled a critical search and portrayed the university in a very unfavorable light. Hart's huge ego made him a lone wolf on this search, which is a key part of his job, and he failed in very public fashion. He's being excoriated in the media and he has earned it.

So to be clear:

During the coaching search, the constant refrain around this place was "Hyams/Rucker/Heather/the Sports Animal/the Knoxville media SUCKS." But now that they're excoriating Dave Hart, they're prophets, and we should take what they're saying very seriously.

Is that about the speed of it?

Isn't it possible that today, just like yesterday and tomorrow, they're saying whatever they think will draw the greatest audience? After all, controversy is a lot easier to sell than thoughtful commentary.

You're drawing a correlation between what I said about Dave Hart and what unnamed others have been saying about the media.

IMO, Dave Hart deserves all the scorn that is being heaped upon him from anyone who cares to heap it. Hell, he's being ridiculed on-air in L.A., and they're trying to get Kiffin to weigh in on the state of UT football.

As for the Knoxville media and media wannabes, even blind squirrels find nuts, especially when the nuts are stuck right under their noses.
