New Ala. gov: Just Christians are his family

how is it respectful to anyone who is not a Christian? Also what does it have to do with his primary role as governor?

to him, being a Christian would have probably have a big roll in him governing. to you, his faith should play no part in his governing. I guess it's all relative

so he's going to create faith-based jobs and roll taxes back to just 10%? Not sure I understand

and you also didn't answer the "respectful" question. I don't have an issue with his religion but his statement was pretty exclusionary

Some answers to some questions in this thread.

1. He ran entirely on jobs - his particular hook was that he would not take any pay for being governor until Alabama returns to full employment (he's a retired MD)

2. Virtually every Alabama politician is Christian and makes some mention of it. I do agree though that this statement is strong for an inaugural speech.

3. He was the better choice of 2 bad choices for Gov. He beat the best choice in the primary.

Im a christian, and I agree with this.

I understand the context of the verse that comes from, but don't understand why he put the way he did. I don't mind his claim as a chrisitian but Im not sure where he was going with that.

as it should be but I would vote they both should be

true but I don't see the point in stuff like that. It just doesn't help anything especially in the oh so tolerant state of alabubba

I agree, as far as the state of bubbas problems it doesn't really help. When was the last time a politician was efficient with anything? Much less a speech.:)

Dermatologist to be exact. (I feel MD is a little misleading in his case, but maybe that's because I don't like him)

One of Byrne's problems was the fact that people went around saying he wasn't a Christian

3. He was the better choice of 2 bad choices for Gov. He beat the best choice in the primary.
Agreed.

See bold.

I understand what he's trying to say, just don't know why he said it. Don't know anything about the guy at all other than what I've read here.

Actually total OT taxes would hit about 28% (I think and will have to double check, might be 25%) once all was said and done.

Calling it now, before the end of his term, he will be involved in some sort of ethics, sexual, or some other controversy.

You never know, but looks like he's been a solid Evangelical type for his entire life. Not that aren't episodes of them going haywire and giving in to base desires, but at least you can;t argue that he became a Christian to exploit it.

He's a politician. You know they're a little slow. :hi:

Wow. You had an opening and didn't take it.

I'm impressed.
