I figured he would get the nod. Solid choice for them.

Fulmer to Buffalo? (someone had to be the first to say it)

That would be a perfect fit. He is already insulated for the cold and they have those great chicken wings! Someone had to say that as well. Actually, I think Fulmer should see if he can be a guest host along with Charlie Weis on Man Vs. Food.

Objective question - why a solid choice? Record at Buffalo does not appear very good. 20-30 overall, more importantly 14-18 against his level of competition within the conference. I don't follow him or his program; is there something extraordinary in his abilities that isn't evident from on field record?

Looks like Gill is putting together a good staff.

From a KansasCity.com article:

...

Gill will bring with him Carl Torbush, formerly the head coach at North Carolina and currently the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State, to be his defensive coordinator and Chuck Long, formerly the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma and formerly the head coach at San Diego State, to be his offensive coordinator. Gill is also expected to bring two other former head coaches onto his staff at KU.

Congrats to Turner Gill!!! I thought he should've been hired at Awbarn last year. He'll do well in the Big 12.

Guys its freaking Buffalo is pretty hilarious.

How about it is freaking Kansas.

Charles Barkley is an idiot, and Turner Gil would have flamed out at Auburn.

When he fails at Kansas it will be blamed on the program and not the man. It may actually be a valid thing to say as well, but Turner Gil is not freaking Tony Dungy, he is a guy who had Dave Clawsen like results and has been hyped by a few prominent friends.

Also in case you did not know, until Kansas brought in the angry fat man they just ran off, they were irrelevant completely.

Clawson has been successful everywhere he's been except UT...

For the record, I don't think Mangino should have been fired. I just think Gill is about the best replacement KU could have reasonably hired. Buffalo was an absolute joke before Gill. The fact that he made a semi-respectable team out of nothing shouldn't be overlooked, IMO.

Anybody wanna set up a "loser leaves the site forever" bet with MHF here regarding Gill's success in Lawrence?

Good hire by KU.

Again, where's the objective evidence? A college student telling me "its a good hire because I say so" doesn't do anything for me. The numbers on paper don't add up for me, so is there any independent expert analysis, or quotes from reputable peers, or something meaningful?

Until something comes up, I'll consider it a shot in the dark by Kansas and hope it works out well for all parties involved. I do like it when people succeed.

How are you defining success?

His first three years are not as good as the last 3 at kansas.

Would you take that bet?
