Art Evans out of Lakeland, Florida committed to us tonight. He had offers from Ohio State, Georgia, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Indiana, Duke, and Ole Miss. He has a 3.7 GPA and is a great student. Big time athlete and his coach who played w/ Deion Sanders at FSU said he is a similar player. Only knock I can see on him is the comp. he plays against.

I don't care what kind of competition he played against, some of his 2005 stats are eye popping:

Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 185 pounds
GPA: 3.7

2005 Offensive Stats: 62 catches 1,329 yards, 23 TDs
2005 Defensive Stats: 11 INTs, 2 TD's
2005 Special Teams: 8 punt return TD's

Beating out OSU and West Virginia is more like. Though they are not direct competition on the field, stellar players get recruited by OSU.

Beating UGA for a kid is great.

I agree, GAVol. I kind of appreciate this new tactic the Vols have used so far in recruiting. Getting these guys early sets the tone for a good push come fall...

33 TDs with a 3.7 GPA almost seems like a joke.

Whats you guys opinion so far on recruiting? Alost of these guys may not be well known, but it seems like we are going for character a little more this season vs past years where the focus seemed to be solely on 5 stars...

Maybe he will join this board. With his GPA he would raise the average IQ here by 20points! :crazy:

He fits the growing common theme of this class - Speed.

Looks like a solid pick up to me. It's nice to get someone who can raise the team GPA and possibly make big plays..

gotta be something hidden here...a athlete with those kinda numbers doesnt get snatched up by 1 of the 3 schools in Florida? Im a lil suspicious.

Two things you can say about this class so far is most of it is in state and we are recruiting as much speed as possible.

Bama apparently wanted him but didn't offer because of limited schollys and this is what JC Shurburtt of Rivals said about him:

One of our analysts got on this kid early. We both watched him at the Miami NIKE Camp. He's very smooth, very fluid and very good.

Nice pick-up for the Vols on the eve of July 4. Nice one indeed!

looks like we may acutally be able to return punts and ko's, when was the last time we took a punt or ko to the house? who coaches that area?

Im pretty sure the main coaches (PF, DC, JC) have decided to get involved in S.T. like they used too.....Dan Brooks recruited him.
