New drinking game involving Duke basketball

Exactly my point, your hatred towards Duke shows because you are pointing out something so ridiculous that isn't even worth it. Shows bittnerness yes, and jealousy, yes.

What's ridiculous is how pervasive this type of play is amongst the players of a particular team, and it's becoming more and more apparent - I'm just merely sharing the evidence and letting other people make up their own minds.

But it's interesting to me that you haven't denied that they do this.

If I were truly jealous, I'd walk the half-mile over to the Duke bookstore, buy some paraphernalia, and become a fan. Nobody would fault me for rooting for the local team. I've considered that, but my conscience just won't let me.

That makes absolutely no sense. None whatsoever. Saying jealousy should just make you a fan is absurd. As an Oakland A's fan, I'm jealous of the Yankees and all their money, but the day I put on a navy cap with NY on is the day Hell freezes over (cue the hell frozen over sign from someone).

On topic a little more, 99.9% of you making these claims have such a blind hatred for Duke that you refuse to admit all other teams do it. It's part of the game. I was taught the art of flopping when i played and I guarantee not one of my coaches ever met Coach K. The bottom line is Duke "flopping" is the one thing you can hang your hat on as the reason to hate a team that has been a powerhouse for so long. It's the same crap that so many on here spew about the Patriots or Tim Tebow being gay. No one has an argument that has enough sustenance to carry the argument anywhere. I said it much simpler before and I'll add at the end of this:

jealousy must really suck.

You still can't ignore the fact Duke flops probably twice as much as any other team in college basketball... well maybe not Duke as a whole - but a few of their core players.

VT did it more last night than Duke did. It almost seemed like a planned move the first half for VT to flop all over the place.

What am I jealous about? Please tell me what Duke has that I want.

obviously you're not man enough to admit it, you'd much rather come up with unintelligent putdowns and unworthy criticisms upon them, but you want a program with over two decades of dominance, 3 titles and not one major NCAA violation in that time.

and let's not forget you're the one making the lame accusations that no other team flops. Just Duke.

I kinda have a personal vendetta when it comes to bandwagon fans. They drive me nuts regardless of which sport it is. Technically, alot of TN fans are bandwagon fans cause not too long ago you could go to a UT basketball game and hear crickets, and now they are good and its difficult to find good tickets. I have liked Duke for a long time. I lived several years in Durham and just started to love the feel that was in the area when I was a kid. To say they flop has some truth to it, but to say they are the only one to do it is completely false. I watch ALOT of basketball and I see teams doing it all the time. Its crazy that the officials still call it but it has became part of the game Im afraid. I totally agree with Volfanbill....Jealousy must suck

TheTN basketball fans that didn't show up to the games before 2006 are more fair weather fans rather than bandwagon fans.

Not really.

There are plenty - probably over half this board - of UT fans that didn't watch basketball when we sucked yet still had ties to the school. They had always been UT fans and had no other teams... but just couldn't take losing.

Im right there with you. It has been horrible trying to watch my Dolphins play the past few years. Its like a papercut to the eyeball.

First off, tell me where I said no other team flops.

Since you challenged my manhood (which I don't really know what that's all about), then I'll tell you exactly how I feel about Duke.

I'll start by admitting that I was wrong and you were right - I am jealous of Duke - not their NCs or ACC champs. I'm jealous of the attention Duke gets. I'm jealous of the astronomical number of times they're on ESPN/ABC and the fact that this gives them such a huge advantage in terms of recruiting.

So when I see a team (multiple times live at Cameron, btw) that gets so much attention playing this way and getting away with it (especially from announcers), it pisses me off, because I think it cheapens the game - it makes them look stupid, it makes their opponent look stupid, it makes the ACC look stupid. It makes good plays less relevant and devalues the play of everyone. And I happen to not like that. And I'm not the only one.

Listen, I've provided some evidence of them doing this - if you provide evidence (not that you were taught the art of flopping by someone other than K) that other teams do it to the degree that Duke does, I'll change my tune. You can refer to this post to remind me, and I promise to stand by it.

Until then, I feel it's the responsibility of little people like me to call it out and let people decide if they think it's "ridiculous" or "unintelligent" or "unworthy." Dickie V and his comrades won't do it, so we do.

I'll also say this: Duke is an extremely successful program. One of the 5 best surely in the history of the game. They recruit incredibly talented, smart players who are true student athletes. Yes, they play hard, but a lot of teams play hard. Coach K is extremely successful, as are other coaches - I might not agree with his coaching style, but I respect his teams' banners. And none of this makes me jealous at all, in fact. It's the fact that we're fed Duke love by the media that covers them and refuses to acknowledge their acting.

See, they don't need to flop and act - why do they continue to? As a fan, please tell me why you think they do?

there's a simple answer to this. I honestly don't know who plays this weekend when, but I guarantee a large number of games will be on TV. Watch them. Watch them closely. Everyone flops every chance they get.

I honestly thought you'd give me something better than this. I watch way more basketball than I should be allowed to watch, so one thing must be certain: at least one of us is just seeing what we choose to see.

Different subject - I don't know if you're a Duke football fan, but I thought I'd pass along this ironic bit from an article I just read about the Pats' pursuit of perfection:

The 1938 Duke Blue Devils and the 1939 Tennessee Volunteers both went through their respective regular seasons unbeaten, untied and unscored upon, although both squads ended their seasons with losses in the Rose Bowl.

yeah.. obviously you choose to see the Duke flops and exaggerate their number. Glad you've came to that realization.

If one were to take a drink every time Sucko T flops or pretends being fouled, they'd be passed out by the third TV timeout.
