NEW First Down Rule

You can be upset about this rule because it's making college football more like the NFL, or adding commercials, or whatever reason. But one thing for sure is that it will have no effect on us, particularly because the way we play makes the play clock irrelevant. It will only help us when we're trying to kill the clock in games with a late lead. And it reduces the time our defense spends on the field. Win-win.

Well, I HATE it! Stopping the clock on first down has always been a unique part of college football.

To be honest, running the clock caters to “run” offenses & the old “Three yards & a cloud of dust”. - I know, I know: It’s the defense’s job to stop them. But, it makes it much easier for a rushing team to just milk away a game with the clock constantly running.

Plus, college ball is not the NFL - or soccer!

I hate all those commercial breaks during them soccer games.

I think it helps uptempo offenses. These O's that need 8+ minutes to score are the ones that are going to be in trouble. There will be less time on the clock, so less time to score Fiddy-one.

The only thing that might change is Heup will need to use his timeouts more wisely and not carry them with him to the locker room as often.
Disagree. It helps shorten the game which is what they want.

They have been moving the clock so fast with the resetting of the ball already, you won’t even notice this change. I’ve watched many times teams pick up a first down, and in less than 3 seconds the clock is running again. I agree with you, I hate the principle of it, but I don’t think you will really notice it as far as gameplay.

One thing we can all agree on . . . It'll at least be nice to not have to go find a stream to see our kickoff while we wait for East Carolina vs. Syracuse to finish a 4 hour game.

Oh man, that bs right there turns me into Nicky Santoro. Nothing like watching the last 2:00 (game time, 20 minutes actual time) of two division II schools who's records are 4-2 vs 3-3 with one of the teams up by 32, instead of switching to the TN game. And then by the time they switch, TN is already up 10-0 and you've missed the first 5:00 of the game.
