New Game: Guess Hat's Reaction

Cal was overrated but I would expect them to finish in the Top 25 this year.

The Vols performance does deserve considerable comment due to the uncertainty associated with this team. Defense? Coaching? Ainge? O-line? All performed above expectations. Virtually all the signs of trouble from last year were missing in their performance in this game.

I think that deserves considerable commentary.

I posted somewhere that I thought maybe you were checking out FSU and Miami tonight.
I was going to, but chose to stay in Knoxville an extra day to catch up with some old friends I hadn't seen in ages. I'll be watching with the rest of Football Nation tonight.

Mebane and Lynch will have long, prosperous NFL careers.

Yeah, I said most. I think Lynch will get drafted pretty high. I'm not really sold on Mebane yet. Defensive lineman are supposedly one of the hardest positions to project in the NFL. He could easily be a star or a bust.

If they perform like that against a team I have any respect for, Florida, for example, I'll be the first person on here writing lengthy commentaries heaping praise on the team. I simply don't think Cal is anything more than an 8-4,7-5 Emerald Bowl participant.

I hope it's a good one.

Translation: If they beat MY team, I'll be pissed, but gladly jump back over on the wagon. But don't worry, I'll still make up reasons to hate Fulmer, and pretend that the sky is falling.

It's quite the stretch to say Florida is Hat's team. He trashes them regularly.

Which is totaly my point kpt.

Multiple teams are "hat's team".

I didn't realize it was a sin to be a fan of more than one team. Please football god, give us the rest of your commandments so that we can carve them into stone tablets.

No no, it's Oklahoma..
I'll take the shots. I can handle it. However, just remember that Cal is probably some where between the 5th and 7th best team on the schedule. This coronation might be a bit premature.

There is ONLY ONE Football team.

The rest can go to the place that LIO would edit from my post if I typed.

LOL

It wasn't really a shot. I truly thought that you were partial to Oklahoma..

I do like OU. I have since Billy Sims was winning the Heisman. If forced to rank teams, behind UT obviously, that I root for, the Sooners would be at the top of the list.

1. Florida
2. LSU
3. Ga
4. Cal
5. SC
6. Ark

From what I saw of SC and Ark Saturday, I think Cal is probably better. SC struggled with a weak MSU team and Ark got embaressed again by USC.

Since we are ranking our schedule, I will take a stab
1. LSU
2. UGA
3. Florida
4. Cal
5. SC
6. Ark

While I don't think Florida is overrated by much, I think everyone is giving them too much credit. Urban Meyer is still their coach, and Chris Leak is still their quarterback. Let's see how they fare against our SEC defenses.

And I guess that is something we can take heed of as well. Let's wait and see what we can do in our first SEC test.

1. LSU
2. UF
3. UGA
4. Alabama
5. S. Carolina
6. Cal
7. Arkansas

That's changed a good amount for me from 1 week ago, when I WRONGLY expected:

1. LSU
2. UF
3. Cal

Oh how I love being wrong. :)

I'm going to stand somewhere in the middle, here, and say that I'm just not sure how good Cal is, and I'm not real sure how good we are yet. All we know, for sure, is that we are better than Cal. They sure had some strength up front on defense. Lynch is definitely going to be a good back for them. But, we abused the passing offense, the O-line, and the secondary. So. . . .is our defense just that dominant? Are our receivers that much more physical?

Guess we'll know in about two weeks.

And, on a side note: Do people really think SC and Arkansas will be better than Alabama? If so, that would be cool.

The margin was a bit stunning. It appears their QB situation is as bad, if not worse, than ours was last year. They'll be fortunate to win 8 games.

If you go back and look at last season's stats, Cal was worse than UT nationally in passing offense. They did not beat a team with a winning record. But they did win 8 games. They'll probably win at least 8 again.
