I actually thought last night was one of the funniest episodes the show has ever produced. You guys are right about the rest of this season though in that it hasn't been as good as last year.

Last night must have been a bad episode, I've had several friends get on Twitter and talk about how bad it was.

I haven't heard anything about New Girl being in danger of cancellation, but the ratings definitely have gotten worse each season, and I think so far this season that trend is continuing. The ratings have dropped below a 4.0 already this season.

Way too early to know about Shield, though they did lose about 4 million viewers from the premiere to the second episode.
