As everyone knows I support CCM and I want him to do well here. I loved Pearl and what he done here, but I also realize that we have to move on.

Cuonzo's coaching philosophy is to play tough hard nosed defense. With the rule changes that is almost impossible to do unless you are prepared to have players foul out and have the other team score a hunch from the line. His philosophy just simply doesn't work now, especially with these group of players and these group of post. With a 6'6 and 6'8 4 and 5 you can't play a half court motion offense and expect to feed the post and not get shots blocked and miss layups. This team needs to run and press like CBP's first 3 teams when he won most of his games. You have 5 super athletic guards that can run a team out of the gym and score a lot of points (McRae, Hubbs, Richardson, Moore, and Barton) you have an excellent passer in Thompson that can get them the ball and then you have a stretch 4 that can also run AJ Davis. Maymon and Stokes on the floor together just isn't working. So here my proposal for a lineup...

Thompson 25 / Barton 15
McRae 30 / Barton 10
Richardson 20 / Hubbs 20
AJ 20 / Maymon 10 / Moore 10
Stokes 25 / Maymon 15 (depending on foul trouble, etc.)

I really want Martin to succeed here because I don't want to go through another coaching change. But I'm afraid that if he doesn't change his style up that he is going to fail to make the tournament here, and that will be the last straw for me. But I'm going to let the season play out first and get behind this team. Let's move on and hope for the best and finish this OOC schedule with 4 wins (3 if you don't count Tusculum)

If AJ keeps playing like he did Saturday we gotta start getting as many minutes as he can handle. Agree that Hubbs should at least be seeing equal minutes with JRich. Unless he is just getting destroyed off the bounce.

I hear you. The style you mention could be a reflection of the head coach. IMHO it seems to me they play scared (tight) against respectable competition. But it is a long season to go. Sure hope they get it right.
GO VOLS!

Will the meltdown be even heavier tonight if Bama beats Witchita St?

My take is that the vols are learning who to play and how to play together. With 4 new players getting minutes(Thompson, Hubbs, AJ and Barton) there is going to be a feeling out period. Also Maymon hadn't really played in a year, so he is getting his feet back under him. Like everybody else, I see the kind of players that could make this a special team by March. Blaming the coach isn't the answer! If you remember last year the team jelled late and went on a solid run. If this team gets it's act together and the coach learns the rotation we could all be sitting around and enjoying the h3ll out of March Madness! GBO. :good!:

We could really use an Isaiah Victor type athlete right now. Thats what the new rules are made for. I agree, we need to reevaluate how we use Stokes and Maymon.

Agreed. We could also use a better coach as well to go along with this talented roster that is being wasted right in front of our eyes.

I agree with Steven Pearl.....don't play them at the same time. It causes everything to be too slow

One thing Cuonzo has done that I thought was impossible, hes even made me miss Buzz!

That's sad that you miss having 1 out of 4 winning seasons over having 2 winning seasons back to back.

Edit my bad Buzz had two I forgot he went 15-14 also smh

Yea cause Martins back to back NIT runs are just amazing! Stifle yourself Edith, our opinions differ but stop acting like Cuonzo has done a good job so far.

Of course you're going to hear from the efficiency troops on this one.
I do agree with your assessment and solution, but I don't think Martin will change.
My worst fear before the season was that he wouldn't be able to adapt to the talent he has.
I think he'll stay the course and repeat the script of .500 ball in the first 20 and a too little too late run in the last 10.
I also think he'll lose to VA and have nothing in his OOCs to warrant an NCAA invitation.
I was high on Martin when he came. Lost me at Bama and Mercer last season.

4 guards with Stokes and Maymon rotating would be the winning combination. Hopefully CCM will wake up and smell the coffee.

South Carolina lost to Manhattan by 18 points tonight. Playing them will definitely hurt our RPI. What the heck is up with the SEC? I guess Frank Martin wishes he had stayed at KState
