New look offense...

Can Tennessee beat UGA without a power running game? Running out of formations in single back sets with no FB requires excellent blocking and no busts. UGA's front seven is pretty darn good, can the Vols block well enough. I know Coker is fast but UGA is just as fast as on defense. It would have been nice to see Coker's speed against Florida.

I think our running will fair pretty well against the Dawg defense- especially toward the end of the game. Remember: we almost beat the talented gator team with absolutely no running attack. As long as we have *some* running game, Ainge, Meach, and Swain will have their way with the UGA secondary.

We stayed in shotgun most of the game and mainly didnt have a back to block while we were in shotgun. We spread Memphis out and attacked thier weaknesses.

I think this is another smart move by Cutt, going away from the FB since they haven't been as productive as needed.

I like the 2 TE set for running plays.

The spread offense is a nice change of pace running out of the shotgun. I think that is the "fast break offense" Cut had talked about in the spring.

Should make it easier to run the ball, when they spread the defense out.

Cutcliffe insinuated this weekend that one purpose of that shotgun look was to give UGA D coaches a little something extra to work on this week. I'd say it'll get used, but until the line proves it can handle it's assignments when there is real beef on the other side, look for that 'heavy' set to be predominant.

Side note.... There seems to be almost complete acceptance around here that Coker is now the man. I'm not sure I agree.
I expect Arian to get every chance to re-establish himself in Athens....

It is wierd not seeing an as traditional UT Offense. I have grown up on smash mouth football but now we look like Florida. Is the spread offense really the wave of the future???

What is so suddenly different about the offense that we are running? It looks like a lot of the same stuff I've been seeing for the past 15 years with a few wrinkles thrown in.

Maybe your right GA but there were alot of different wrinkles against Memphis. When was the last time we almost completely went without a FB??

Peyton Manning's Sophmore-Senior years.

True...but I think this is a tad different with the the way they are using the TEs. It looks very west coast offense to me with all of the flares and drag routes and things.

We still used a FB a lot when Peyton was here, unless we were in 4 or 5 wide. I don't think we're full out spread like we were then.

Reminds me a little of the A Kelly days with Von Reeves and Mark Adams.

I enjoyed seeing a shotgun HB toss against Memphis. We don't do plays like that very often.

Our offense definitely looked sharp against Memphis. If we hadn't run the ball so much in the first half, we probably could have put up 50+ points against Memphis. Whatever Cutcliffe did different with the offense in that game I would like to see against GA.
