Reaganite Republican: Another Ronald Reagan Statue Unveiled in Eastern Europe . . .

Reagan+Statue+Tblisi+Georgia.jpg

A handsome, stylized 'park bench' monument dedicated to Cold War victor Ronald Reagan was unveiled in the former Soviet republic of Georgia yesterday. The country's pro-Western, American-educated president Mikhail Saakashvili proclaimed that the work 'deserves a place in the heart of Tblisi' as he and his countrymen seek to honor Reagan for 'destroying the Soviet empire'. He also took the opportunity to lament what he sees as Vladimir Putin's attempts to restore that lost empire.

Meanwhile in Poland, a new Reagan statue was erected along a tree-lined avenue near the US Embassy earlier this month. While the current party-of-power in Warsaw are the Socialists, all Poles know that without the Pope and Ronald Reagan, Solidarity would have been promptly crushed.

Nobody more aware than Lech Walesa, who noted at the ceremony 'Thirty years ago, defeating communism did not seem possible without a nuclear war', adding it's 'inconceivable' for the changes that did come about (peacefully) to have occurred without the blessing of a Ronald Reagan presidency...

Alas, a harsh contrast is provided by the way prog vermin in our own country vandalized a Reagan bronze in Newport Beach, California (also this month).

What vile, embittered ingrates some people have become in this ludicrous Obammunist era...

Some city council members there have offered-up a $5000 reward themselves for info leading to the scum that did it.

Me, I would boil them in oil... but happy to report that the sculpture's already been sent back to the metal foundry for repairs to the damaged base.

This thread may have been more accurately titled "Obammunist scum vandalizes effigy of the greatest man of the 20th century"

... I'm guessing that's the part you were itching most to share.

Last time Raygun got an erection was sometime in the 30's.

And I guess you must have been an eyewitness?

BTW, I didn't read where public funds were used
in Newport Beach nor do I believe anyone worships
the Reagan bronze.

I can't help but mention that it appears someone has
a thing for prog vermin vandals.

Public funds are being used in Newport Beach to restore the Reagan statue.

Also, Judeo-Christian (mis)use of terms does not usurp the original meanings.

Ronald Reagan is to the right what Bear Bryant is to Bama fans. Both are dead and because of that their legends have grown larger than Jesus.

A. Public funds are being used in Newport Beach to restore the Reagan statue.

B. Also, Judeo-Christian (mis)use of terms does not usurp the original meanings.

A. I didn't read that in the original article, did I miss it?
At any rate we have used public funds for many projects honoring great Americans, especially in Washington, DC.

B. Which Judeo-Christian (mis)use of terms usurps the original meaning of what?

I consider most people who call themselves 'progressive' to be exactly the opposite.

Gs, do you consider these statues works of art?

Actually casting bronze is generally considered artwork is it not?

I happen to be aquainted with the guy who cast Kieth Whitley for his museum, the local Minnie Pearl bronze and most all the other bronzes of country music stars in Nashville.

It isn't all that simple and most people consider those who do such work to be artists.

Slick Willy Clinton has a statue in Kosovo.

I guess Obama will get them in Libya, Egypt and Gaza.

At any rate many many people east of what was previously known as the Iron Curtain have great respect and admiration for Reagan.

The US has and still does use public funds for vainglorious displays; it does not make it right.

My statement was in reference to your response to my use of "idol". Your reaction was to immediately place the word in the context of the Judeo-Christian narrative.

Etymology of "Idol" per OED:
The order of appearance of the senses in English does not correspond to their original development in Greek, where the sequence was apparently: ‘appearance, phantom, unsubstantial form, image in water or a mirror, mental image, fancy, material image or statue’, and finally, in Jewish and Christian use, ‘image of a false god’.

Yes, kind of like someone who reveres Gen Neyland's Statue "Idol" enough to use it as their avatar.

Because an avatar picture on a college athletics forum really compares to a statue that costs more than your car.

It is quite difficult.

I wasn't commenting on the price of the statue or even how/ who was paying for it so nice irrelevant post there, as usual.

They are nothing alike. Me liking one statue of Robert Neyland is nothing like how some conservatives cling to the days of Ronald Reagan.

Do you think the Arizona Memorial is a vainglorious display?

:eek:lol:

I was born during the FDR administration and remember hearing fireside chats over a battery radio before we even had electricity.

Reagan has been the ONLY president halfway worth a chit during my lifetime except perhaps for Eisenhower.

Kennedy might have done alright but didn't get the chance.

There is a statue of Lenin in a park near where unreal lives, he thinks that's cool though.

Where I used to live. It is both neat and vainglorious, and no public funds were or have been used for said statue.

I am almost 100% sure that if Reagan came back today and ran for President, he wouldn't even be on the ticket for the GOP nomination. That's how far right the right has become in just thirty years.
