New Rivalry Games (Hypothetical)

I know that the focus of your original post was the establishment of potential new rivalries, presumably involving UT. I would like to say, however, that, in our headlong rush toward "super" conferences, we are losing some truly great rivalries, most notably Texas-Texas A & M and one that was perennially one of the preeminent matchups in terms of national implications--Nebraska vs. Oklahoma.

I totally agree, if the SEC decides to expand further which I believe it ultimately will in the future then the Tennessee-Alabama game might even be in question.

OU Nebraska, though, was lost as a perennial game long before this - as you put it - "super conference rush"

The Big 12 chose to stop playing that game annually (and favor more of a rotation between cross-division opponents) back around 1997-1998

When I was young, all the way through my years at UT, I used to look forward to the Georgia Tech game......probably because it was normally a nice bounce-back victory the week following our annual loss to Alabama throughout the 70s. Anyways, as a resident of Atlanta, I'd love to see that long time rivalry renewed.

All the Mizzou fans I've talked to loved Knoxville and the way they were treated by Vol fans. I think it would be a good starting point for a rivalry.

They also like how our team folded under pressure...a rivalry doesn't start by people liking each other. I hated Alabama the day I was born. It could turn into a rivalry if every Mizz game ends in OT or comes down to the last play. Only time will tell.

It takes 2 out of three elements for a rivalry...time, hatred on both sides, and competitiveness (overall records shouldn't be extremely lopsided).

I thought it would be interesting to see what some match-ups you guys would like to see and the name of the game. It will be a deter to all the negativity and the wildfire of coaching rumors.

I would like to play Texas and call it the "Battle for the T"

It's looking like our only rival will be Kentucky

I've always thought we should start a rivalry with UNC, both in football and basketball. Which I guess we tried; I would say "Border War" but I think that one is taken.

Exactly. I always feel left on the last game in the year...I wish we had a SEC/ACC rivalry game. Wake and Vandy seemed to just up and start one, why can't we play UNC every year?

well blame Texas for that one.
