man i dunno about you guys but i can lose 6-8lbs between bed time and the morning, and about 2 or 3 after a good piss. This stuff is cool i guess but i'd like to see updates on 40 times and/or weight room maxes, things of that nature.

tmi, imo.

I recall reading that Emmanuel Mosely had put on a bunch of weight since enrolling in January, but he's still listed at 5'11" 165 lbs. If true, that is a disturbingly low weight for somebody expected to tackle SEC runningbacks in space.

Eh. It's not ideal, but I wouldn't panic. A lot of great NFL CBs are 185-190 range, and Emmanuel is still in his first few months on campus as a freshman. Hell, Jason Verrett is only 176, and he is one of the best CBs in college football, and is starting his senior season.

He could stand to gain some weight, but it isn't the end of the world. And 5-10 lbs should get him into playable range.

"Individually, the Vols gained 419 pounds and lost 135 since the last roster update to net a 284-pound gain."

That's bull. Highly unlikely each player has gained 419lbs and lost 136lbs. Now if you mean collectively, sure, but individually? Hardee har har. That makes them freaking yoyos and unhealthy ones at that.

Jason Croom, man oh man, he start catching passes, it will be no fun to tackle that hulking WR. Six foot five and 234lbs? That's mean!

Alden Hill - I hope he gets his chances. Hurd not withstanding, i think Hill is a bowling ball of a RB. It will be lost to not use him.

They fixed it for you...

Individually As a whole, the Vols gained 419 pounds and lost 135 since the last roster update to net a 284-pound gain. (Although UT may have edited some players, I donÂ’t believe the roster has gone through wholesale weight updates since August of 2013).

Individually is crossed off in the blog.

I agree. I suppose the argument against posting 40 times and combine-like test results would be that it might give opposing teams a small scouting advantage, but if posting those numbers publicly would motivate the players to compete and improve more than they otherwise would, I would be all for it.

Don't know how accurate this link is. Dobbs is listed at 193 lbs. Butch has said more than once over the past few days that he is up to 210 lbs.

Old weight is 193 the new one is 203 (at the link) but Dobbs may be closer to 210 now than 203.

Normally I would agree that 165 lbs for a pre-freshman DB isn't a big deal, but we need Mosely and his speed to contribute immediately for our team - if not on defense, then at least on special teams. I hope he plans on eating plenty of PBJs over the summer.

Another player who's impressed in the first two "shell" practices has been Von Pearson, who at 6'2" 173 lbs is almost as skinny as Mosely. He doesn't have to tackle anybody, but I wonder if the transition to full contact might be an obstacle for him as well.

Tightends Branisel and Downs are under 230 at 224 and 228 respectively. Interesting strategy for our TE's.
.

For this to be a strategy, it would have to be done intentionally. Both of them are recovering from surgery and have lost weight as a result. Downs is a VFL and has played injured for two seasons. Branisel had two surgeries during the off-season. Those who consider themselves vol fans should take that into account before criticizing or making snide remarks. These guys are giving their bodies for the program.

I'm preferring to believe that the OP was wondering if we were having our pass-catching TEs lose some weight in order to increase their mobility and their potential impact in the passing game. At the very least, his post didn't strike me as particularly snide or critical.

He is out for the spring, but should be ready by the time Summer comes. He will be firmly in the 2 deep mix.

Before he got hurt last year he was our best DT imo. Seemed like every time a big DT made a play I thought it was big Dan but then found out it was Saulsberry instead.

Hope that Hendrix and Henderson relegate Williams to being a depth guy by midseason or sooner. Both are more talented and project to be studs at UT .... don't see Williams doing much because so far he hasn't. Hope to be proven wrong.

Ya never know ... we've had a few that finally busted loose their senior year ... Robert Ayers was one of em.

Creamer came in as an athlete. He played WR and OLB/Leo/DE in High School. With us moving him to the defense it should speak volumes as to what Coach Z and Coach Jake think they have already in the WR corp...jmo

youre setting yourself up if you think true freshman are going to be instant impact on the d line in the SEC. thats a grown ass man position. i know they are more talented but how much of a diff do you think they really make in year 1?

No idea. Carl Lawson had a nice impact at Auburn last year (Rivals 6.1 rated 5 star.... Hendrix is 5.9 rated 4 star). Georgia had a true freshman DE last year who looked really good. Just saying that Williams ain't the answer and we have a couple very talented freshmen DEs coming in. Just looking for help and answers.

And upon what facts do you base your opinion? Not being a jerk here, just wondering

Facts? About whom? Here's where the thoughts/"facts" about Williams from my post came from, beyond just my own eyes while watching him play.....

As a junior, Williams played in all 12 games, had 9 solo tackles and 1.5 sacks. In his 3 year career, in 31 games, he has 24 tackles and 4.5 sacks. Very little to no production.

My thought is we need another DE opposite Vereen, I'm assuming here, and I don't see anybody else on the roster with the talent of the guys who will be on campus in the summer.

I mentioned Dewayne Hendrix, the 5th rated DE in the country according to Rivals, and Joe Henderson, who reportedly significantly outperformed the nation's #1 DE recruit last year D'Shaun Hand at one of the top prospect camps. I'll throw in JUCO Chris Weatherd, the top JUCO rush DE in the country last year.

Is it typically a longshot that a freshman DE is gonna step into a SEC starting lineup and make an immediate impact?.... Yes. My point is simply that all 3 of these guys are inarguably more talented than the unproductive Sr DE that we currently have penciled in as a starter this year. I hope he blows up and has a great Sr season, but I'm not counting on it based on his past performance. Therefore, I hope that 1 or more of these 3 newcomers leapfrog past him and become more productive contributors this year..... Unfortunately it wouldn't take much
