New Texas coach

Yes, wonder if they give to the assistant coach?

I'm sure she'll get an interview, but I wouldn't be surprised if she goes with Vic. They are like good cop-bad cop. He was the disciplinarian, and she was the mother figure. She's the reason we got a lot of the recruits we did. Some aren't entirely sure that Harris wants to be a head coach.

It looks like they are going to reach out to Walz and Matthew Mitchell to gauge interest. Mitchell is actually from Mississippi and is a State grad. Another name that came up is Nikki McCray-Penson. Those are the three names I've seen from our beat writers.
I know that money talks but I do not see Mitchell leaving Ky. He recently said he was there as long as they would have him. Nikki would be a good get but I think who ever replaces Vic will be for a messy ride. I hope they get a good one. I live in North Ms half the year and like state even though I got my masters at OM. I like Leach but I think Kiffin will do ok as well.

It will not be messy if some or all the players unite behind the new coach. I know team loyalty is not what it once was but getting the players to stay will be key. If Vic takes some with him or someone leaves the chicken coop open, the team could fall back to where it was 20 years ago.

Big IF and I think some will go with him. Would not surprise me if Madison Hayes goes as well.

Texas has the $ to throw at any coach they want but it comes with one caveat, your not winning in 2-3 yrs your gone. They don't mess around. Buyouts no problem for them.

Well, it certainly hasn't played out that way with their current MBB coach.

Shaka has been thoroughly underwhelming with no NCAA tournament wins in 5 years, but with two years and more than $10M left on his contract, he's still around for at least another year.

Aston's contract was up this year, no buyout necessary. The writing was on the wall when she wasn't extended before this season, and the only thing that might've saved her would've been a shockingly deep NCAAT run or a COVID-19 hiring freeze. Neither happened.

Hey Coach Jumper, why don't you throw your name into the candidate pool? How much money would it take for Miss St to lure you away from being Volnation head coach?

I am all vol!
besides,,their color-burnt orange looks bad on me

Money is not my motivation, bringing the Lady Vols back to championship form,,,IS!

FYI my response was to enten/eller’s post #137
Sorry, I was just trying to have alittle fun but, apparently, my intended tone went about a mile over Jumper's head. I shouldve know better, my mistake. His answer made me giggle, I'll admit.

If you re-read my response, I answered it jokingly for your benefit, then added a response for mine
Ambition scares people who don't have it

I don’t think you can compare Vic leaving to the greats that were mentioned in this thread like Wooden, Knight and of course Summitt. Those are legends and HOFers and impossible to replace.

Vic is a very good coach, but two NCAA runner up years doesn’t mean he can’t be repacked at MSU with a coach that can be as successful.
