Hello Vol Nation! My daughter is an incoming 1st year in the College of Nursing and am actually moving her in this weekend. Have made a few trips to Knoxville and loved it. We are from Virginia Beach and while I have been a UVA fan over my lifetime (yeah, that was brutal last year lol), I have embraced the move to support and root for the Vols and good ole' Smokey! I'll always be a fan of UVA, but it is time to run to the checkerboard as General Neyland has ordered me!!! I hope you all will accept me!

Have been following UT extensively this past year holy smokes what a year to get on the bandwagon. Between the basketball and baseball team runs, what CJH has done the past couple of years with football, and the red-hot recruiting going on (with the best yet to come Mr. David Sanders Jr.), it is tremendously clear that there is something special going on here that is going to push UT to the absolute elite tier of sports and academics.

Looking forward to some incredible games (and hopefully she makes friends with some prolific tailgaters lol), checking out the Vol Navy, watching the Vol walk, listening to The Pride of the Southland, singing Rocky Top 800 times a game (and I'm not leaving Down the Field out of this, I know it is the true fight song), witnessing the splitting of the T, and while I won't be able to attend in person, enjoying beating the ever living snot out of %$#bama.

I have spent plenty of time lurking here, and as this weekend approaches and can finally say we are officially Vols (although the student loans taken out have made us officially Vols for sure haha), I look forward to tons of excitement, a gameday atmosphere like no other, and eventually bringing home a National Championship! And did I mention taking %$#bama behind the woodshed and beating the ever living tar out of them? Go Vols

Tennessee, Tennessee, there ain't no place I'd rather be. Baby won't you carry me back to Tennessee

Super happy you're joining us, SEVa. Seva. Hmm. Hope you like that nickname, man. Heh.

Anyway, really glad you're with us. Divided loyalties are no problem, except when the teams play one another (as long as the other team is NOT in the SEC or in some other way one of our arch rivals, lol).

I gotta tell you, in the four years I was an Army cadet, the Vols played West Point not once but TWICE. I listened on the radio (local West Point radio station aired the games, of course) and cheered for the Vols both times, even if I was surrounded by fellow cadets. And one of my roommates was a starting linebacker on the Army team! But hey, I was a Vols fan long before I became a cadet. That was my rationale, anyway.

So won't hold you to cheer for the Vols if/when we play the Cavs again. You'll cheer for them, we get it.

Just glad to have you and your daughter with us almost all the time now.

Go Vols!

p.s. Lived in the Hampton Roads area for a couple of years back in the early 90s. Loved it there, nice place.

Welcome, sevavol!

That was wise of you to lurk and get a feel for the quirks of this particular sanitorium. (Just please be as wise about those student loans. She might need to become a travel nurse for two years to repay them.)

Like any family, we have saints and sinners, scholars and blue collars, men and women, rich and poor. We run hot and cold, thinking and emotional, entitled and battered, observing and reacting.

If you haven't done a gameday thread during football season, ease yourself into it. The breadth and fury of our manic-depressive postings will take you from Everest to the Marianas Trench, from oxygen deprivation to nitrogen narcosis.

And some Saturdays, that's before kickoff.

Welcome aboard! Happy to have you. I think it is still okay to root for Virginia in addition to the Vols.

Lots of Virginia Vols fans! Enjoy the ride! I'm not an alumnus but my parents are. Once it's in your blood, it's hard to get out.

Welcome from The Valley here in The Commonwealth. We WON'T consider you a "True Fan" until you endure 15-20 years of heartbreak...so you're a just a "Fan" till then. Congrats to your daughter...SHE is arriving at a GREAT Time To Be A Tennessee Volunteer. As I told a dear friend of mine from my days in The ATL, who's son will be a Junior this year...it is a MAGIC Time to be a student there, in MANY ways. Similar to the Late '70s when "Johnny Came Marching Home, Again!" for me. Be SURE she knows it and enjoys EVERY MINUTE OF IT...

I'm surrounded by WaHoos (& Hokies) here 45 miles west of C'Ville...10 years ago they "talked smack" during Basketball and Baseball season...but NOT anymore.

How 'BOUT Them VOLS??!! GBO!!!

Welcome sevavol. You and your daughter have joined the Big Orange Fam at a time where things are definitely on an upward trajectory. Glad to have you, but one piece of advice I would give you is to avoid this place like the plague after a loss.. Full of disappointed Vol fans that have over imbibed. I usually avoid it for at least 3 days until I have semi gotten over my disappointment and the other folks have dried out. lol. GBO.
