Conservatives triumphed in New Zealand on Saturday as the country decisively voted to kick the far-left Labour Party out of power. That comes after the recent resignation of former PM Jacinda Ardern, who led the nation's years-long "zero COVID" push.

Christopher Luxon will now become the country's new prime minister.

as always Conservative doesn't mean what we think it means here in the US.

these "conservatives" are for:
1. rehabilitation instead of prison.
2. a purer form of democracy where the majority rules everything.
3. increased Green initiative support, both research and required implementation in their country.
4. increased public housing and pricing controls.

even the items that seem conservative aren't really.
1. they are for banning abortions, but really they are just for putting an unelected government official in charge that decision on a case by case application.
2. they want new laws to "inhibit" the rights and protections of the LGBTs, but really they are only for getting rid of a special law that let any person claiming to be trans to get every benefit of that sex, including playing sports. they would just require that you have actually started the process to actually claim to be trans before you can play, everything else stays.
3. their protection of schools and markets from unnecessary bureaucracy is just removing power from the legislative and again creating an unelected government position to manage those things.
