Next Michigan Basketball Head Coach

I remember a quote from him when he took the USC job saying he wanted to go somewhere where he could walk barefoot on the beach. I don't think he'd have a good time doing that on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Majerus is spending most of his time now in Milwaukee, WI and Bristol, CT. Not a lot of beach area in either of those locales.

Bristol is only about an hour and a half from the beautiful shores of the Long Island Sound.

Both of those guys would be smart choices. That means they have no chance at Michigan. I have full confidence that Bill Martin will make a horrible hire.

I would expect Michigan to make contact with Majerus and Gregg Marshall...and, who knows, maybe they'll try to talk with Bruce Pearl.

But what about Lon Kruger? He's had experience recruiting in Big 10 country, and he has a successful track record at every college stop he's made...I don't know if he'd have any interest, but I imagine Michigan will have an interest in him.

Ernie Kent has expressed interest in the job...doing that before a sweet 16 game can't bode well for his future at Oregon.

Now that they canned Tommy Amaker, who do you think the Wolverines will go after? My list would include the following list of suspects:
Tony Bennett (not the crooner that left his heart in San Francisco)
John Beilien
Mike Montgomery
Tubby Smith
Bruce Pearl
Steve Lavin

Stay tuned! I may give you a list of potential Arkansas candidates!:p

Good call. I'll admit I'm shocked that a school that had previously shown no interest in investing in basketball would hire a coach that costs them $2.5 million dollars before they write him the first paycheck.

At Michigan, they are obsessed with keeping up with Ohio State plus they have a loyal and wealthy following, second only to Notre Dane.

The same loyal and wealthy folowing that has allowed them to play in the most decrepit building in the Big 10 for the last 20 years without any hint of an upgrade?

So who is in line to take over at West Virginia? Any chance Huggins bolts for his alma mater?

I would be stunned if he would leave Bill Walker and his other recruits in that kind of position. Not that's he's going to ask me, but I think it would be wrong on Huggs part to leave Manhattan. That said, I bet Jeff Neubauer from Eastern Kentucky gets a look at WVU. He worked under Beilein for years and would facilitate a smooth transition.

And since when did having a hugh nice basketball arena correlate into sucess?.........If it did UT would have won several national championships since TBA was build. Now, how much you are willing to shell out for an outstanding coach is a horse of a different color.

Belein will love the opportunity to play in a conference that averages about 60 points a game. Hell, I want to coach there, I could probably do better than Penn State's coach (kidding).

Let's see. Carolina-Modern, high tech practice facility, huge arena. Duke-History laden arena they have constantly renovated, great practice facility. Ohio State-Great new arena and practice facility. UCONN-Top of the line, state of the art on both accounts. Kansas-Great, immaculately mainained gym, top notch practice facility. Kentucky-Modern and immaculate facilities. Michigan-Lousy arena, even lousier practice facilities. I detect a trend.
